Ricoh R8, Any good?

Just seen this camera on Hot Deals UK, Im looking for a compact camera and this looks just what im after, Read a few reviews and it looks good, Also cheap.

I was thinking about the Fujifilm Finepix Z20fd, But im more leaning towards this one now.

Any one on here used one?

My wifes Dad used to work for Ricoh and we have had a couple of cameras of him. The one thing he warned us about was that the newer ones are a little more fragile...there are more plastic gears rather than metal so dropping one could damage it more easily.

As a camera tho they have both been superb

Cheers for the reply, Sounds a bit of a pain.. My sisters camera had the optical zoom break on her so it is a worry.

Im really not sure which one to get. Ricoh one really does look a lot better. But i have'nt got a clue tbh.

was a toss up before xmas on either the Ricoh R8 or the Panasonic TZ5, had the TZ5 and really happy with it and would highly recommend it, previously had the R4
