Rim size?

  Clio 172 Ph1.
Can you put 18" rims on a ph 1 172, without any other mods?

If so, what would the best tyre size be?

Erm i would say no ... well not without it looking like a 4 x 4 anyway. I've got 17's on mine and super skinny tyres with coilovers and that was a squish. 18's i would say you wouldnt be able to turn the front wheels and would get major scrubbage on the rear without starting to cut things away. Would defo need to change the suspension too i would imagine.

Saying that, I would like to see it done (properly!)... I think mine looks schweet on 17's but wouldn't wanna go any bigger.

Well mines lowered on coilovers, not sure by how much but quite alot, almost on the lowest setting. The suspension needs to be quite stiff with big wheels to prevent scrubbing.

Honest question, not a dig....how can the diameter of the wheels affect turning the front wheels? surely the width of the wheels is the only restriction. I personally don't think they would look good, but i can't see why 18" x 7" wheels wouldn't fit. (finding tyres may be more of a problem!)(approx 195/35R18 or 215/30R18)

Because usually the bigger the wheel the wider they are i.e. 18 x 7.5 or even 8 and like you say, the tyres don't get much thinner than a 35 profile! With mine lowered I had trouble with my front wheels catching on the arch liner where it sticks out behind the headlight ... just didn't think an 18 and lowered would fit!

have a look at a clio on 17 with standard suspension,

it will make you chuckle,

i cant imagine what a clio on 18 with standard suspension would look like,
pretty laughable im sure,

i had to pull my rear weather guards out just to get 17s on there,

18 will need some serious work as they will be wider are well as bigger,

IIRC somebody on here had 18s, can't remember who, was a while ago, looked overly big I think, needed work doing to the arch if I recall right.
