ripped off at renault

  clio 182
how do you think they pay for 15 grands worth diagnostic equipment do you think renault hands it out to every dealer as part of some magical deal for putting the badge above the door lol

and as for pads are they going to last till next service ? the reason we suggest replacing parts is not if the're not badly worn at the time is because they are going to wear out before next service and its not like your going to check them coming out with lines like " It past its mot " they dont even take the wheels off on an mot do you not what the inside pads are like ? yes dealers are more expensive but thats because they have the correct equipment

and independent garages aren't jus stab in the dark people with cheap diagnosic "plugs" my garage has both the bosch KTS 650 and Snap-on Solos pro which is much better than a cheap laptop kit "can you work on can bus systems ?"

yes ive worked for both renault and independent garages

I love DIY mechanics cant wait till some of them try something as simple as putting rear pads in a new passat and find out you need a KTS or something simmilar to push the electronic hand brake back so you can wind the pistons back were not working with simple mechanics any more welcome to the new age:D

Sorry rant over its jus plummers dont get slated like we do because "oo id better get a plummer in wouldnt want to cause a flood" but whats basicly a 1 ton missile capable of 140mph " yea ill have a stab at fixing that"

I can tell you have been bottling that up for a while binksy. I know exactly what you mean. I must have 3 customers a day say things like ''it was mot'd last week'' They really cant understand why the mot tester didnt notice that the window regulator/battery/starter motor/coil pack/headgasket etc etc was about to fail.

How many times have you heard ''it failed the mot on emmisions/had a warning light come one, so my gargae fitted a cat and a lambda sensor and it still failed/had a problem so I took it to the dealer/specialist''

Forum's like this can be very helpfull in sorting problems but not alwyas. sometimes they are their own worst enemy in that all you have to do is post a thread saying 'my car wont start' and then you get told to change the coilpack/tdc sensor/battery etc coz ''that was what was wrong with mine''

Then you get a follow up thread saying ''fitted xyz and still wont start''

It takes years to get a decent knowledge of vehicles even with college and dealer/factory training and its an ever moving target with something new coming out all the time. You cant even change a bulb on some cars now without resetting the ecu.

How often does new technology come out in the plumbing industry? No disrespect to plumbers but car technology is so high tech now the days of your mate down the pub beingable to do much are numbered.

Ive been in the trade for nearly 15 years, and my knowledge would only scratch the sufrace of what is out there. Ive worked at 3 different dealerships and the amount of money it costs for diagnostic equipment and training required for the latest vehicles is unbeliveable. after a vehicle get to 3-4 years old the information has filtered down the trade a little and the equipment is available from 3 party maunfactures.

Problem is people will still take a stab at a fault and chuck parts at the car with crossed fingers.

also by the way what plug's did you fit genuine renault one's or cheaper plug's ? most people no the non gen plug's play havoc with the car and did it miss before the plug's were fitted ? did they use new gaskets where required ? if there isn't a fault code in the ecu it's more than likely a mechanical fault or something that was not done correctly
the plugs were ngks from k-tek

Renault Birmingham "you're pads are 70% worn sir"
Warren "Really?"
Ren B "yes, would you like us to quote you for new ones?"
Warren "no thanks, but would you like me to quote your mechanics for glasses?" (he's an optician)
Ren B "what do you mean sir?"
Warren "it had new discs and pads all round yesterday"
Ren B "oh"

Fail to see the problem here. No one held a gun to your head to accept the new pads.

Renault like to replace things that are ''wearing out'' not worn out. They pointed this out to you and you agreed to the work. Thats your bad not theres.

Did they charge you for the diagnostic check?

right that knocks them out of the equation !! next i would be lookin at checking the coil pack or pack's start it up and remove each one if the engine note changes or ye hear a loud tickin then there usually fine if the engine noise doesn't change or no ticking is heard thats prob a faulty coil pack try this and see what you find.. or when is the missfire happening ? all the time, under accelaration ?
