Road rash repair

After seeing someone on here do a road rash repair on there bonnet recently has reminded me I'd like to do mine on my bonnet and rear arches.

I've seen some guides and kits in the past, but some of the kits are £50, I have a paint shop local to me, am I right in thinking all I need is a 50/50 mix of colour and clear cellulose lacquer?

Just mix up, wipe on with clean cloth very thinly or brush on and dab, then once dry machine polish off? I believe some of the kits have a paint buffer solution for after the paint has dried? what is this isopropyl alcohol?

Any tips or just a confirmation would be great.
