Road Tax Due

  Vectra
Road Tax came through today, £66 for 6 month or £120 for the year, needs renewed by the 30th.

Hate paying it, because the roads are terrible! what does road tax actually pay for?

Anyways anyone else's Tax due?

I just think of it as a monthly cost that I pay once a year.

I agree though it is a lot.

IMO the VED tax will be revamped shortly anyway.

Ha yeah, nothing compared to what some of the guys on here pay, I don't care what its called but what I do no is none of the money goes on the state of our roads!

Tbh, I don't think £400+ is expensive. Period.

Especially considering the insurance is WAY more than that, if it's on a car with the highest 'tax' bracket.

I must admit I didn't think they were in the highest bracket either. It's only an S2000! Bit weird to think it's the same as the pointless chelsea tractors on the roads these days.

I looked up the tax on a Subaru WRX the other day, it's the same as my 172,
just as well as that's my next car.

MPG on the other hand. :S

Even £400 a year is still only just over £1 a day to NOT have to get the bus.

£120 tho .. FLOL. Can't even buy a name decent pushbike for that.

This.

It makes me LOL when people consider not getting a car because of the tax bracket.

It's probably the lowest of all the running costs involved, and could probably be made up for by making sure you have the cheapest insurance policy available.

OP, at which price point would you find VED acceptable? Free? That would be great but then you'd have to pay more income tax. And you'd still have to pay more even if you then sold your car and walked everywhere, and that wouldn't be fair really.

this!!!! my mate just bought a mini one because his parents "wouldnt let him" get a cooper S because the boggo one was tax excempt.

How old is your mate? Could the real reason be because of fuel & insurance, as they're vastly different? Or rather they just did not want him to get a quick car at a young age (presuming he is young)?

Not all S2000s are £460. IIRC that is for post 2006 cars, and some of the earlier cars are £270. The biggest problem with an S2000 is the insurance; I can insure one for £1100 but I can insure a Z4 3.0l for £650. I once read it was because the seats are desirable and easy to steal but that doesn't make up £450 surely.

I insured my S2000 through specialist brokers and got it for £650 (age 26, 4 years NCB).

The insurance group is way off the mark at group 20 because the very first models released in 1999 were not fitted with an Alarm. They also have no traction control systems what-so-ever. In later cars T/C became an option, but never standard I don't think. In year 2000 onwards Honda UK retro fitted Cat 1 Alarm Immobiliser systems but insurance groupings and insurance companies didn't really catch up with it.

S2000's are not hard to insure though, you just need to go through a specialist broker that does recognise the alarm and appreciates you are a car enthusiast and are less likely to crash than Dolly is in her Daihatsu Charade ;)

I never read anything regarding stealing the seats though! Probably lack of T/C more than anything :)

Re: tax, 2006 is the golden year for lots of sports cars jumping from the £250 mark to the £450 mark due to emmissions. RX8's are another example of that...

It all relates to your postcode.

I get my insurance relatively cheap but it has to be garaged.

Many specialist insurance company's pick and choose the areas that they want to insure.

Meg tax popped through the door this morning.

6 Months £148.50

12 Months £270.00

Suffice to say I'll be paying 6 months to get out of the trend of getting it before Christmas!
