Road trip - Wales

S&K

Car  182 cup + Elise
Hi all,

Going to be driving from Warrington to Caernarfon on Saturday, then on Sunday from Caernarfon to Newport South Wales. Been looking on Google maps but can anyone give me an idea of which is the best route in a 182 ? Looking for good driving roads on a direct ish route ? Any advice appreciated :D

TIA

Simon

Warringhton to Caernarfon is only about 1hr 40min dude,

Just come down the A55 from warringhton to Caernarfon, if you want you can do the evo triangle and go round Bala Lake etc,

If you see a silver 172 rep with yellow wing mirrors and badges then its moi ;)

Come straight down through mid wales, past builth, brecon etc :) Some quite good roads around there, you wont have trouble finding any :D

From Warrington I'll be going M56, A55 then A494, A4212, B4391, A487 so thats not a problem its the route South I need some help with as I don't know mid Wales that well. Also anywhere good to stop for food about half way ish ?

One road I'd definitely recommend is the B road leading from Cwmystwyth to Rhayader which leads through the Elan Valley. Head to Aberystwyth then take the A44 to Ponterwyd, take a right onto the A4120 to Devil's Bridge and Cwmystwyth is signposted from there. You won't be disappointed!

Just been looking at the map and if I go south into Aberystwyth - Devils Bridge - Cymystwyth - Rhayader - Brecon - Abergavenny - Newport. Sound like a good route ?:D

No worries mate, I've put a few more directions in the orginal post for you now.

Should have added this for you:

Once you get to Rhayader, take the A470 south to Builth Wells, then take the A483 towards Llandovery. About 20 miles down the road you'll come to a small village called Cynghordy, there's a sharp left turn onto a single track mountain road towards the village of Tirabad. Once you get there, follow signposts for Llywel which takes you over the epic roads of the Epynt Military Ranges...

Oh and thanks, really appreciate it. Is there anything this forum can't help with :)

You'll love epynt!

You could then head back towards Llandovery, take the A4069 signposted Llangadog, then head towards Brynaman over the famous Black Mountains.
You can then head back towards Brecon on the A4o67 and carry on north back towards Builth Wells.

Really looking forward too it now, going to go pick my Clio up from where i store it and give it a good wash before tomorrow and treat it to a tank of Shell's finest :) Anyone about this afternoon for a blast ?

Im near the Black Moutains, but Clio-less currently, and my Navara took a bit of a hammering in a forrestry last night oooops.

What did you do to it ? I sell lots of engine stuff for those YD25 engines, you had trouble with it ?

i've just come up from Cardiff to Caernarfon...A470 all the way, some fun bits, some boring bits...

was dicking about in the mud, climbing a steep bank, took it at too much of an angle, slipped down sideways almost rolled it then landed against a tree!by the time I managed to get out of that position i'd scraped both OS doors and the rear arch!!!! fail!

luckily the majority of the damage is on the doors, and ive sourced some from a breakers for £150 so not all that bad.

As for the engine, its fine...was on 54k when i bought it 6months ago, now on 68k...no sign of "the con-rod knock" yet...touch wood!!

pm my your number just in case....
