Robbing B*startds

Seeing as my clio has done nearly 40k miles now I thought I better but it in for its second service.

Went into my local Renault dealers to book it in expecting to pay around £180 as that is what I forked out last time. Whilst talking to the lady behind the desk she mentioned that the second service was a biggy and that the price was £325!

After pulling myself off the floor I did a bit of bantering and got it down to £240 which is obviously considerably better.

How can Renault justify that amount, they really have got you by the short and curlies as if you don't get it done or get it serviced elsewhere it can have a knock on effect for future value.

Suppose its all part of having a new car I just though I would have a rant and see if anyone else thinks the same as me.

Rant over lol

To be honest, I'd much rather see a Renault specialist stamp in the service book than a Renault one - especially on these sort of cars. A lot of people love Renault stamps.. and if I had a newer Clio (172/182) I'd probably use Renault for a bit too! I think the "specialist" bit comes in much more on the older models (16v/Williams definetly).

Or, be like me, love the car so much and don't care about future value - you probably won't sell anyway! :approve:

As long as you use genuine parts and service it to the book (on time/mileage etc) then it will not effect warranty

**EDIT** Also keep hold of invoices so in the event of a warranty claim you can prove you used genuine renault parts

the European Union have now said you can have your car serviced anywhere you like (as long as its VAT registered), and as long as all parts used are genuine renault your warranty isn't affected

for example, you could take your 182 to a ford dealer to be serviced!

some major savings to be had from "specialists" or local trustworthy garages

value of vehicle in terms of "Full Renault Service History" (in my opinion) is no more than a 182 with "Full Specialist Service History"

yep but if you have experince with UK Renault Dealers, you'll know they pretty much know sod all about the RS cars

i'd be much happier buying a car with a "specialist" history, just my opinion

Agree with Fred..both local Reno garages wanted around £250 for the 12K Service!!!
Was never going to them anyway as the thought of leaving my car in the 'capable hands' of Renault mechanics didn't appeal.
Took it to GDI, approx half the price..proper specialists and I knew they would do a top job (and they did)..

I'd agree with fred on the fact that a specialist service is worth more than a renault monkey stamping your book.

When mine is due a service, i shall be booking it in to GDI. Its a bit further than my local garage (i live in norwich), but i personally think its worth it, to know that my car will get the correct oil used etc.

I think Ollie(original poster) doesn't have a Renaultsport Clio - Every 18k miles if you're a driving a 1.2, 1.4, 1.6 petrol Clio. 36k miles equals a major service. So £240 isn't too bad a price to pay from a Renault dealership, my best mate who has a 1.4 paid £290 for his 36k service 2 weeks ago from Swan Renault in Chichester.

Ah that could be different then. When i had my 1.2 i paid £190 for the first service at 18k miles. And the car did feel like a new car again, so i cant complain at the work done. I just wouldnt want them working on the cup, as i've spoken to the sales man, and he often talks about how he has given the sport models a good thrash. So i'd not trust them to not take my car out for a quick burn!

Invest in Oil from Total Butler, get an ITG filter (hardly any performance gain, but doesnt need replacing every 12k) and you'll save yourself a shitload every time. My 12 and 24k services were both £114, the 24k could have been £25 cheaper if had remembered the voucher.

I must've got a good deal on my first service on my 182...
£49 inc. Vat ;)
Although it wasnt Renault that did the service, but all the parts were renault approved :D

I got quoted over £300 for a 24k service from renault.

You need to ask if undoing your belt and dropping your trousers is included in the price. ;)

Thats disgusting as its only an Oil and Air filter, and 4.5lts of oil. They are charging you over £250 quid for labour and a stamp. Think they might have is mixed up with the 36k

4yrs though....needs coolant and brake fluid change....still far too much....they wanted 100 notes just to go the oil filter & oil change!!!!

Belts are obviously 5yrs/36k so that's next year.....I am going to take the car to Rentech anyway as I don't want it abused!

Do we have a list on here of Renault Specialists? and if so there location?

The reason is that Im not sure where to take mine, i can take it to my dad's mate who will do a good job (genuine parts) but he will only be able to sign the book as he would be servicing it in is spare time

or take it to Renault pay loads to people who dont have a clue

If its not on renault finance, get the parts and a local place to do it like rentech. No point paying those spanner monkeys to scratch your door and dent the bonnet.
