rocker cover

Car  ph2 172,2010 transit
im about to take my rocker cover off want to check the timing etc. does the rocker bolts also hold the cams in place or is it safe enough to go a head and take it off ? thanks in advance

I believe the cover holds the cams in place so you probably do not want to remove unless absolutely necessary.

Await expert.......

on a 172/182? DO NOT UNDO THE BOLTS

inlet and exhaust cam pulleys HAVE to be removed first, and you need the RENALT ONLY tools for that

rocker cover stays in place for checking the timing anyway

yeah its a 172. thanks for the help i had a feeling that was the case ill take the pulley cover off to have a nosey. just want to make sure the timing is correct as i have just bought the car and it doesnt run ! many thanks

If the engine doesn't run I would be checking the basics 1st. All leads and plugs connected, Spark, petrol etc.

yeah plug leads etc are deadon engine turns over by hand no probs cams turning so no broken belt. it turned over today and reved right round to 6000rpm then quit qnd wouldnt start again. ill be trying again tomorrow
