Rolling arches?

Does it actually make much difference? Is it just the lip on the panel which you flatten back?

Everything else I can see up there is all fixed and won't be moving for toffee.

Want to get rear spacers but want to minimize the rubbing as much as possible first.

Anyone got an arch roller in Surrey I could maybe borrow?:cheers:

For the 182?

What size spacers are you looking at?

I run 10mm on the rear on standard cup wheels with no rubbing (on sportlines)

Yeah man.

I was only looking at 10-15mm max.

But I'm pretty low on ASTs though. Not stupid low. Heights were set up by a proper motorsport company. Just on massive compression like Paddock at Brands I get a lot of rubbing.

You will need heat gun also for the arch lip, mine never rubbed with 195s, 10mm spacers with ASTs lowered. However as discussed, if you run 205s you will need to roll them, I also trimmed (cut) the inside bevel of the bumper where it meats the arch.

Obviously the softer springs the more compression and easier you will scrape the arches/arch liner.

I've just bought an arch roller Martin but your arches should be rolled on the back as standard

Scrubbing front or rear mate?

Fronts on Paddock Hill for example (which I know is extreme compression anyway) Rears seem to do it when I go curb hopping lol.

Trying to investigate it each time I use the car on track. putting spots of black paint around the arch and checking to see if they are still there after the day.

80nm front and 475lb rear according to the prints on the springs..

Maybe my springs are too soft then, could be the issue?

What are your AST spring rates?

Why have you bought one lol? Rubbing too?

How much are they?

Fancy lending me it for a beer ;P

If you're rubbing on the front it will be the bumper bracket in the arch rather than the arch itself.

Martin if your still rubbing at the front just bend or cut the metal bumper brackets out the way. I did mine the other week and fitted some quik latches to the front bumper to hold it on. No rubbing so far, still rubbing on the rear though :(

Your car look awesome mate!!!

Wish mine was as clean as that.

Those quick latches look decent. Got a link for them please?

Do they bend the bumper in though? Or is that just the light in the second pic?

But yeah, I will look to try and bend this metal bracket out the way a bit..

@Martin
Cheers, it's really not that clean though, that was washed with fairy washing up liquid then sprayed with turtle wax detailing spray :D

Yes they do bend the bumper slightly, but that was my error I ordered the kit with the short pins instead of the long pins. I now have the long pins and the fit is perfect.

Interesting thanks.

So the black top part is just a cap to hold the bumper over the pin yeah.

Any pics of how you mounted the pin underneath?

Not that cheap though.

I haven't got any pictures to hand I can grab some though.

Your right there not cheap but they are quality and they do the job and look better than aero catches.

To fit them you do the following.

Take bumper off
On each side there is a metal tab around 10cm x 5cm drill an 8mm hole in the middle
Fit pin with nut on both sides
Refit bumper and press in sides of bumper and mark the inside of the bumper where the pin meets the bumper
Take bumper back off
Drill 18mm hole and fit the catch
Refit bumper and hey presto

I really took my time to get it perfect and it took about an hour or so todo

Cool. Yeah it looks simple enough. Now you've done it once it would be so much quicker the next time. So I'm just keen to see the best positioning, which you would have already worked out after fiddling around with it.

Certainly a good route to take, I agree they look better than aero catches.

But yeah, not cheap for effectively a threaded pin, a couple of nuts and a rubber/plastic cap lol.

I've got catches on the bonnet anyway.

But I'd personally rather have neither on the bumper if it's not essential.

I really do like how discreet these caps are though. A good option if I can't get enough clearance around the bracket.

  Cup In bits
The arches roll a good bit I thought, maybe 15mm each side at the top. You can see just about that the edge of the quarter is curved.

That pic is with the rear shocks out but its not far of that height anyway, that's 48.5 et 2118's (slicks) and spaced out about 20mm with lots of camber.

They feel like metal rods when you drop it down on the ground. Cup racer Bilstein's but I can't remember the stiffness.

Looks like you've done a good job! I wish I'd have tried to flare the arches out a little bit when I rolled them but I didn't dare lol!

Anyone have an arch roller I can borrow near Nottingham? :D
Might give it a go if I can get my hands on one!

Martin - fronts are too soft and the bumper brackets are your enemy as others have said. I cut mine off completely and just rely on the plastic clips of the bumper/wing assembly to hold it in place and together.
As for the rear, it's potentially your rear bumper touching the tyre or the inner part of the rear arch. Mine used to do that too. Modified it using a grinder and a large modification implement (hammer!), and now I get no rubbing. I'm also very low at the rear.

I think I know the bit you mean mate. The bit that sticks out at a right angle. I've already trimmed it, maybe I need to remove completely too.

Doing Snett in a couple of weeks so will be able to investigate further :)

Will trim the front bumper bracket this weekend if I get time and see if that helps too.

the photo of an arch roller is the same as the one I bought.

Yes mate I'm going to be running when I put spacers on the back. Sports don't have the rear arch rolled as standard.

can borrow whenever you like :)

  Many.
Issue is rolling the arches without cracking paint etc, heat is required, and its ideally a job to do in summer!

I wouldn't worry about extra supports on the front bumper, the clips along the wing edge do a fine job, and if you just bend the bumper bracket upwards, solves it easily.

Mine rubs the rear on the bumper/arch liner, roughly where the screw is. Its mostly worn away now, so not worrying.
