Rough idle and struggling to accelerate 172

  Clio 172 Sport
Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum and have just bought a Clio 172 FF.

Absolutely love it...handling is awesome!

Having a little trouble with the engine though...Its a bit rough on idle and struggles to accelerate properly.

Can see from the service history its recently (last couple on months) has had new coil pack, leads and spark plug from a Renault dealer so i've ruled those out as being the issue.

Wondering if anyone has any other ideas? Maybe injector? or Lambda sensor from what I read.

Brilliant site by the way!

Cheers

Luke

Could be loads of things TBH, lambda sensor or incorrect cam timing are very common causes, temp sensors also can do.

If you are anywhere near to glastonbury, you could take it to Dan at SJM Automotive and pay for him to diagnose, its likely to be cheaper than keep buying bits and swapping them only for them to not fix.

All booked in with Dan for next Wednesday :)

You would think a lambda sensor would bring up an engine management light but nothing is lit of the dash.

That or even cam timing. Give me a bell on 07969 124504 and we can discuss it a bit more Indepth.

;)

Im sure Dan will sort it out, he's far better at fixing cars than reading posts properly, lol.

Didn't on ours. Easiest way is getting a specialist like Dan on the case though if you're unsure, sure he'll sort it.

I think it is just a case of if the readings are a bit out, the ECU thinks they are normal and hence listens to them, doesnt put the light on and does run badly, if they are total nonsense it knows and puts the light on.

Had a look through the service history earlier and it had a lambda sensor in May this year so jacked the car up today to have a look at it and it looks almost brand new!

Guessing he just got fed up of replacing parts...winner for me as its had new plugs, coil pack, leads and lambda in the last 2 ish months.

Looking forward to it going to Dan's so he can sort it and I can drive it.

I've been told its a F4R 736....I'm looking to get a catalytic converter for it. Any ideas if there is any difference betweeen one for an F4R 730 and one for an F4R 736?

Cheers

According to who?
There is NO such thing as a "Full fat" anything, its just a slang term used on forums, and the first times Ive seen it used were about non cup 172s

I have also seen people use it to describe a 182 with both cup packs as well, but neither definition is other than what people want to call it as it has no actual renault meaning.

According to the author of the thread that's been made a sticky on here that I took the screen shot from. I'm not a Clio expert, just going off what someone else has posted.

Also, I know full fat isn't a term that's come from Renault themselves.

Good day there in all fairness. I was the silver 172 with a matt black bonnet. It was my first track day in the Clio and I've got to say more fun than the track days I've done in my Scooby. Did you go on track too?
