Rough idle/running and running rich and high emmissions, garage cannot diagnose HELP

  Black Gold 182
I have taken my car to MOT today which was already running like a dog - does not idle and keeps cutting out without revving.

Garage failed MOT due to running rich/high emmissions.
They plugged into their diagnosis and could not locate the issue.

I have changed the spark plugs and coil pack....am running out of ideas.

I just did the fault find thing and got errors "t" and "h"

I reset them and started the car again, and those faults do not come up now !!!
Its still running real bad....im lost for ideas!

Possibly a loom fault given the number of things you have already changed.

Anyone near you got an RS Tuner, the diagnostics on those is pretty good.

You are a bit far!!

been to my local dealer today, they suspect its the cam dephaser, does this sound a possibility?

Unlikely to be the pulley itself, and TBH even the solenoid is unlikely to make it as bad as you are saying, you can normally unplug it and it still run better than that.

Get it plugged into a decent code reader, RS Tuner works well enough for example.

You could spend hundreds on guesses otherwise.

Looking at around £850 to diagnose/replace cam belt and dephaser.........which might not even be the problem!!!!
Time for a new car me thinks.... :(

Just stick it on a bloody RS Tuner, even if you have to pay someone off here to lend you one, it will tell you what is wrong with it probably, these ECU's are very good at self diagnostics.

Why are you taking any notice of a garage making random guesses when they clearly dont have even the most basic of equipment required to work on these cars?

Yes, it's at the renault garage now and it's not coming up with anything definite. Crazy...

Often when you get a load of random symptoms its a corroded loom, me and Dan@SJM changed the one on my other halfs car recently and it sorted out a load of random mismires and silly unconnected fault codes etc.
