rough sounding engine

hi all,

just wondering why my engines soundign rough lately.. its got 7800K on the clock and to be fair i havent exaclty taken it easy. It causes a slight vibration inside the cabin and on idle its a bit wobbly? when acceleratign i seem to have lost the smoothness.. good exampole is when i put it in 1st and let it drive, it seems to shudder forwards now and then.

any help is much appreciated, il take it to a garage and get it checked but i dont fancy paying up if its just simple stuff.

((could it be the carberetta?))

hi there mate..i too have the same problem but have the found the cars are like that due to renault quality..if in doubt take it to the dealer for a once over...it does hel i think getting the oil done every 6k

fair point. But it sounded like a diesel and the wine from the engine was very loud until it had warmed up??? maybe oil :(

there is a whine from the f4r engine when cold.it is just the oil pump.there is a renault tech note about the problem but the solution is just to fit a different sump with some soundproofing plates on it.they dont do any internal engine repairs as the noise is considered normal.as for any rattles i do think the engines are quite noisy anyway but if your concerned then let your dealer check it out to be on the safe side.as for the running fault that may be a sensor or software issue.

Had the same issue, to add to it I broke the air intake connector trying to fit one those frigs from Ebay (resistor that freeks out the ECU and forces cold air through) and the error logs filled up on the ECU. Not saying youve got something broken, just something may not be reporting properly. Dealer should pick it up or a garage with a Sun Tuner setup if you get desperato. Then do run lumpy by deign, its a built in!

new generation 16v renault petrol engines do have a slightly rough idle im afraid.still needs checking for the roughness when driving though.

change your oil or top it up. Also put optimax in as your petrol - youll instantly feel a lot more smoothness. clio engines run like a bag of spanners in the cold and have instabilities in the engine - nothing you can do about it

thanx for the info.. im taking it to reno next sat becuase ive got serious power losses after 3k in anygear.. ultimatley it can still shift but something is holding it back from delivering the power after 3k usually i can be subtle with the throttle and get a smooth speed increase i now have to put my foot much further down to get the change in pace?? ohh well mite new a new engine... maybe they can give me a 2.0T from laguna or 225megane ;)
