RS 172 2002 - Engine Management Problems

  2002 172
Hi,

I know this seems to be a fairly common fault but I'm looking for expert inspiration.

It started when I drove on the motorway in heavy rain. I've noticed some people are linking this to a water fault. Car went into LHM and has been int/mit ever since. Had the codes cleared about 3 times but it always comes back.

Took it to Renault (after my regular guy couldnt pin point cause) and they diagnosed TB. Just had the TB back after sending it off for repair and its' tested ok.

What would you guys try next ?

Thanks in advance,

Helen

Sounds like what mine did after I bought it as it went in to limp mode a coupe of times and fault wise it was showing as a problem with the throttle position sensor. Turned out it was water getting into the engine wiring harness at the connection to the bulkhead...

Hope this helps!

Well got my friend to check all of this out. No corrosion or water damage on or near ECU, wiring harness, fuses etc etc. I made him give it good look all over but none of the numerous connectors are showing any water ingress or chafing/rubbing etc. Its all pretty clean.

Light came on almost straight away, so reconnecting everything did nothing. Forgot to mention that soon after all this originally started (about 6 months ago) the emissions warning light appeared and is now permanently on.

Does anyone think this could be the lambda sensor ? Fault codes stored in memory are DF002 and DF254. I have changed the throttle pedal and BBA diagnosed the throttle body as 'no fault found'.

Hello, well by what u describe regarding (and I assume) it only does it in wet weather I would open the bonnet and with a water sprayer spray everywhere and see if it starts acting up.
The DTC´s you mention you retrived are not PowerTrain related (if it was the TB at fault)
Do you have any misfires registred?
The other thing I would do is to check the Crank sensor with a heat gun se if it starts acting up, check the switching of the O2 sensors and voltage (mainly the up stream sensor)

Hope this helps, regards from Mexico
