RS ECU wont work!

Just purchased an R-Sport ECU off someone, I have installed it and the car wont start!

The car will turn over but will not start.

Are these ECUs dedicated to one car after purchase?

Any ideas?

Scott

Something to do with the immobilizer maybe?? I think I remember somebody else on here having the same problem.

Hi Scott, I fitted a brand new RSport ECU to a mates Cup a few weeks ago and was initially concerned that it wouldnt start due to the immobiliser. But, fitted it and it started straight away. So either the ECU you have is faulty or they store immobiliser info from the previous car. Are you sure that the connector at the top of the ECU has been seated properly using the slide retainer? Take it off again (easier said than done!) and check that none of the pins have been bent. Im sure some of the Reno guys on here (e.g. BobRTE) an the likes will be able to give advice on this. Good luck!! Neil

Each ECU is unique to the vehicle it was fitted to. The code is memorised and cannot be undone. A new computer is VIRGIN and the code from the (UCH)decoder will be memorised in the new computer once the ignition is turned on.

Taking a computer from one car to another just will not work.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the ECU you have purchased is never ever going to work on your car, unless you get the UCH (decoder from the doner car as well, along with the key head (PLIPS). Then you will have to have the UCH programmed to your vehicle as well (Renault dealer only!) Maybe!!!

Thanks Bob .... although its currently bad news from what youre sayin for our friend Scott. There MUST be a solution to this type of problem Bob? We are goin to see many re-sales of ECUs between Clio guys in the future. Whats the solution ... if any? As an electronics engineer I feel there MUST be some way of puttin these ECUs back to a default condition .... yes ? No?

Oh no, thats a pain in the arse. Why didnt the other guy want it?

maybe get a magnet and wave it over the ecu? (joke)

Flyingscotsman I have checked the ECU is seated properley its fine but it seems there is much work to be done to get it working

So I have to get the UHC decoder and the key head?

What are these?

East to fit?

This is a right bas*ard, I was looking forward to a bargain ECU now I have a Renault paper weight!

The other guy did not want the ecu as he was going to put TBs on his car so the ECU would not be needed.

His car is all smashed up now so maybe I could get the parts off it??

I need help guys!

Scott

scott,

well there is only a difference between a mk1 and mk2. The cup eeprom is the same as mk2. There is NO SUCH thing as code´s or whatever. The ecu is the same. My opinion the installed eeprom is dead due to static. Maybe caused by instlling it into the socket.

I can read it out for you and tell you whats inside. If you want so you can mail me on tony@newfriends.zzn.com

well good luck I would say....

Since when???

All Ive been told so far is that the R Sport ECU will not work in a 172 only a Cup, as it aint got the same ECU.

To do with controlling the climate & other stuff the Cup aint got though...

Does anyone know for SURE please???

If you could find out and let me know for certain please...

If they are the same then why wont an R Sport ECU work on a 172 and only a Cup?!

If you get the UCH from the doner car (which is now mashed into a pulp) and the press button key fobs and transfer the UCH to your vehicle it will work. Just swop over the key blades from your key heads to the doner set.

The computer, the UCH and the key heads (PLIP) are coded to ONE vehicle only. By swopping all of these components over to your car it will work.

The UCH is fitted on the left hand side of the dashboard adjacent to the glove box. Bit of a bugger to remove.

Slightly dismayed by earlier comments that all ECUs are the same.

No they are not. Each Injection ECU is dedicated to the car it was originally fitted to.

As I have already stated, a new computer supplied by RUK is uncoded. It only becomes coded when it is fitted and the ignition is switched on. The new generation of ECU are UNPROGRAMMED, and a Renault dealer has to programme the blank computer from a CD or Via the Intranet.

I wish you luck obtaining the UCH and the PLIP key heads.

PPS

As far as I am aware, the code memorised in the Injection ECU CANNOT be overwritten. But I may be wrong.
