RS Inlets? how come they only came on certain models? if so what models?

  BMW M135i
Its luck of the draw and off the top of my head most later 172s and most 182s will have them. My 53 plate did.

My old Cup did (2002), but my current Cup doesn't, but soon will though ;)

I had the Fuel Rail Guard off mine the other day and mine had RS stamped into it, its a 2003 ph2 172.

Not entirely sure what it means TBH

The rs inlets are slightly better matched than the non rs stamped inlets, ph1's arnt stamped so they see the best gains when getting matched, theres idly no gains on rs stampled inlets

Where is the best place to get this done, i have just bought a ph1 and what sort of price should i pay?

Cheers

Cool, mine's stamped with RS inlets. Happy days

... not that it would probably make any notable difference like, just looks better :p

Does anyone know if it makes it more/less likely (or the same) that the car had RS ones if it was an import?

Fred and Danny, I've got another set of RS stamped inlets that I was planning on having matched, looking at the gasket marks I'd think theres a lot of material to be removed. Do they match them to the gasket?

And if there is any kind of gain surely it is worth doing?

  ITB'd MK1
not matched to the gasket at the head end. If you do that it's significantly too big. At the upper to lower manifold join, you can match both sides to the gasket perfectly

Every set of RS stamped inlets I've ever seen have been shocking, including the ones on my 182! I had them matched and what a difference it made!

really? I thought the rs ones were supposed to be much better.

What gains did you get from having them matched and how much it cost?

I have matched inlets on my cup, pulled a little better but nothing special, you will see 1-3bhp max out of matched inlets, ph1 see slightly better

is that if you have the remap aswel or will you get gains from just having the inlets matched?

  monaco 172
Thats the gains from just the inlets, with a map you will see about 10bhp increase, imo the inlets arnt worth getting matched

kk, i still want to consider if if i ever get a spare 200 quid lol.

Whats the cheapest mod to do which will see gains? I was thinking de cat ..

Decat and remap is the best for your money, if your car is pretty much standard then a generic remap like the rstuner will be the best, a custom remap will be best if you have modified your car, i had a custom remap at rstuning, well worth the money

How much is a basic remap for my standard car? My only concern is increased fuel consumption from a remap, inlet porting I've heard can give a better fuel economy

Try an rstuner, about £180 i think plus it can be used as a code reader, it wont affect fuel ecomony, ive seen the exact same fuel usage on my car even after a remap, if anything it will be ever so slightly better, as for inlet porting giving better mpg i dont think it does, ive never heard of anyone saying it has increased there mpg

Ok cheer for that dude. Got any info on this rstuner remap?

What about de cat, does that effect the mpg at all as I was planning on buying 1 in a few weeks after my mot

A decat shoudnt affect mpg however it will throw on you emmisson light, as for the rstuner i dont know a great deal about them, do a search on here and you will find loads on information on it, there a very popular mod for the clio and lots of people have some very good things to say about it

They may be better, but only slightly! My RS tuner performance analyser calculated an 8bhp gain at the wheels, which isnt going to be 100% accurate but it represents a gain none the less! That was without a remap too.
