RS Monaco Clio surprise (Renault Clio R.S.16)

Take your point - the agency staff are given training on all of our models (Clio, Captur, Twingo, Kadjar, ZOE, Megane, Trafic, Renault Sport, etc etc) however there's bound to be knowledge gaps which is why we aim to have a 'specialist' from RUK on each vehicle on stand at all times where possible. I was with Alpine this year and flicking between the two.
I can see the problem there m8 - you can't be expected to know everything about several ranges of cars.

But arguably, the RS section is the flagship representation of the brand and at a place such as Goodwood - there really should be a handful of dedicated staff there. These dealership tents that pop-up in shopping centres and the like - fair enough. They are there simply to spark the interest of the customer or entice them with low finance deals. At a motoring event however, you have a more focused, knowledgeable and enthusiastic passing of foot traffic.

Seems like a bit of a wasted opportunity to me - but I could be wrong.

EVO Magazine were offered the car for their car of the year feature but passed as its not a production model. Why would renault do that if it's not going to be built?

I don't think Renault need to release the rs16 Clio for general sale the current Trophy/ facelift is adequate for trackday and road use. The amount of money Renault will need to spend on the F1 car to get it competitive is more of a priority at present. I would have liked to have seen the cup spoiler as an option on the facelift Trophy.

You can buy the spoiler, if you're rich! Imo it looks a bit oversized on the regular 200t though. It needs the wide arches to balance it out.

Seems like it's not going into production as per CSOC

Well that's a big mistake by Renault imo. The new megane rs had better be as good as the old one or renaultsport could find themselves in the s**t with their loyal customers.

I have to agree, big mistake IMO, they even offered it Evo for eCoty, god knows what goes trough Renaults head office lol.

After all this d!cking about, it feels like they've gone for the worst possible option.

If they're worried about costs they could have gone ahead and made it anyway but priced it way out of reach. They'd still have had all the journos going bonkers about it. EVO already gave the bloody thing 5-stars so a little thing like price / availability isn't going to affect that.

As it is, people just feel completely f&cked about by Renault and it gives a proper mixed message about the existing 220 Trophy.

Classic Renault. What a bunch of clowns. All they have done with this exercise is to highlight just how un-appealing the 200EDC is. Its actually comical.
They said the same thing about the Clio3RS and now because some of you can afford one they are great. Meanwhile we will have to put up with misguided trolling from people who hate Renault because they are not allowed a test drive.

It was in the TG magazine's group test as well.

Makes you wonder why they were bothering to put it out for people to group test with really, as it's not the sort of thing you'd do with a concept car.

Must have got really far down the line before the bean counters killed it.

Was it? I thought there was a big fuss because it wasn't and that was the first clue it wasn't going to be available?

Surely there must be some entrepreneurial inviduals out there who can get hold of the original dimensions for the arches and other parts of body kit you couldn't buy and start making a Clio mk4 RS16 body kit upgrade.

Shame they didn't put it out to a specialist Renault tuning company to produce them instead of Alpine.

I went to the local Renault dealer to please let me know when it's announced they're making it so to put my name down for one [emoji17]. Why do they do this!?

They were about £18k mate, I don't think many people would struggle to find that amount of money.

Who ever is in charge of taking concepts and turning them into production cars at Renault needs sacking, both this and the Twin run would have made such epic cars.
