RS Tuner on my 1.6 16v

  172 & RSi
Just realised tonight that fastchip are now offering the RS Tuner for the 1.6 16v (K4M) Clio engine which I'm pleased about. However, after doing lots of searching and reading, I just don't really understand how it works, and what I would need to do if I were to buy one.

  • So I buy the RS Tuner, then what, I keep reading about different files etc, what would I need to download?
  • What maps are currently available?
  • When it says "tune your Renault yourself with one of our free maps" does that mean I get one map free and have to pay for others?
  • If I were to buy the RS Tuner without the custom map option, could I buy the custom map at a later date?
  • How easy is it to install?
  • Could I buy one thats been used on a 172 and get it coded to mine?
  • Can my car be mapped to use 95 ron or is it just for 98 ron?
Sorry for the questions just trying to make sure I know what I'm doing before I take the plunge, and if I think of any more I'll update the thread.

Cheers

1 - You just plug it in to a car and laptop, play with it to better know Your car, and when You'r ready to do the flashing part....
2 - there is only one calibration file for K4M so far (it's for RON98) download it, click Write ECU and it's done.
3 - I'm hoping that in the future the selection of maps will be bigger (For example I'll be glad if Henk will put on te site maps I'll come up with)
4 - Yes
5 - Same as installing a usb mouse :)
6 - Yes (mine RSTuner is locked for mine 172 and I connected it to my friends ph1 K4M engine without any trouble, Unlock code should give You full acces to Write ECU option)
7 - If no other .cal is available on the website, only Henk can finetune Your ECU

:)

Thanks for the quick and informative response mate, much appreciated. When you say theres only one map, is the the "Group N" map that takes into account breathing mods and exhausts? I'm guessing I would have to use 98ron after it was mapped then? Just wish fuel prices weren't so high at the moment lol.

Cheers
