RS232 waterproof?

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
Its not a type of connection one would normally ascociate with waterproof use, but in the context of an ECU that just needs to be splash proof I think you'll be ok with any of the plastic moulded ones as once screwed down they are pretty good, and you could always just run a thin film of silicon sealant around it.

For an ECU I take it?

yup how did you guess LOL! I might see if maplin or someone do a little box i could put the connections inside just to help

I have also searched for the waterproof RS232 but all I could find was one in america at $700 so I think the heat shrink will be best lol!

Done... I think I will deliver it this week i'm more reliable than a courier ;)

TF electrical spray or something similar. any electrical contact spray with silicone in will do the job. heat shrink tho is a better idea. will only take a knife if needs be to get at whats inside!

For splash proof heat shrink or as said above a spray.

If they fit your needs ( maybe overkill) try dow Corning for a silicone grease or subcon for a waterproof connector. We use them on the auv (1600m deep) for data and power

It's a pity you didn't need this when i was working at Bombardier, I could have made one up no problem.

You could make one up to what ever length you wanted with something like this;

I haven't come across a ready made waterproof RS232 cable that uses D-type connectors before. They usually use AB or Litern type connectors if a high IP rating is required.

The stuff we use (just checked today ) Is made by a company called Vapor-Tek LTD

Heres some phone shots of the tin.
