I want CS’s genuine opinion on this, I’m on the lookout for a new car and recently put down a deposit on a RS3 (refundable). However, my budget is around £35,000 so I’ve been looking into other cars for the same price. What’s your thoughts on the M4? It’s the same price and weirdly enough it’s half to price to insure than the RS3. I’m thinking the RS3 is classier, and certainly rarer (I don’t think I’ve actually seen one to be honest), where as the BMW I’ve seen a few times. The BMW however could be a lot of fun, but then would I be “that” BMW wanker guy.

These are the main two examples –

I really don't get the M4 hate - i think they're the best looking M car for ages.

///M all the way.

Wrong amount of doors iirc.

M3 is an undisputed drivers car. M4 is a piece of s**t.

As much as I love an rs3. I’d have to go m4 out of the two. So much more for the money.

If it was rs3 or m2 I’d probably say rs3

I think the M3's look way better than M4's, so I go with the RS3.. although tbh I'd always be on edge about it getting nicked.

+1 for the M3 looking much better than the M4.

Don't know enough about the RS3 hasn't it just been revised? Appreciate out your budget new but would that bother you? Where as the m3/m4 has a legs for a little while longer.

I must be the only person that prefers the M4 to the M3, I think they look great, but just not in that horrible Blue colour that's linked.

I do love RS3's as well though.

The RS3’s are cracking cars are pretty rare as you say, engine note is special and they are unbelievably quick off the line. Suffer from understeer from what I’ve experienced so a rear ARB helps, pretty tuneable platform by all accounts.

Surprised about folk saying the 8v RS3 being rare, i’ve seen about 6/7 in the last month i reckon.

M4’s again, seen quite a few.

Would be the RS3 for me.

I personally think the RS3's are a bit Barry, the BM albeit a great car a bit dull but the c63's noise is just car p**n although also a bit Barry. My head would say m4 but I think I'd always regret not getting the Merc.

Out the OP's choice it would be the M4.

RS3s everywhere filled with talentless traffic light wanna be Grand Prix drivers. If you want envolement get the M4.

RWD over AWD any day of the week.

RS3 is a cool car, but f**k spending that much on a fast car and not being able to do hero skids.

I like the look and noise of the RS3, but f**k getting your front door kicked in and held to knifepoint at 3am for the keys.

M4 or C63

I have not. What they like?
Weird engine. Throttle response is odd, nothing nothing bang. Then all the power seems to arrive in one go, completely overwhelming the chassis.

New ones meant to be much better (revised mapping etc). It's not a patch on the c63 (imo)

Thanks for the input guys, I'm definitely swaying towards the M4. The RS3 in effect is a £30k+ Audi A3. The BMW certainly looks £30k+

I'd probably lean towards the BMW, but have never driven either. Do prefer the M3 to the M4 in terms of looks though.

I must say though, I know a couple of guys with RS Audis, an RS3 and a TT RS, and with a few mods, they sound unbelievable. Five pots are so awesome. But the fact a Golf R is actually quicker around a lot of tracks would annoy me 😂

In the linked adverts, the M4. Better colour, better interior, who buys an RS3 and doesn't spec super sport seats?

with an M4 they just boost the signal that's emitted from the key (used for comfort access) and drive off in the car without needing to come into your house. Saves the hassle of being woken up I suppose.

My neighbour opposite has an M4 in a sort of washed out red colour. Could well be the colour that makes it look a bit crap, but an RS3 a few streets over just sounds fantastic and I would choose it for the sound alone over the M4. Probably isnt standard tbf.

With a sports exhaust they're pretty ASBO to be honest.

@Op (@Wilkeh ) Would you actually drive the M4 like a champ (i.e. with traction/stability turned off and hanging the back end out) or is this just a fast car that looks fast? If it's the latter then I'd get the RS3, better in car entertainment.

Totally different cars. Depend what you want from one. (Coming from someone who did 40k in a year in a RS3).

Between the M4 and RS3 i would prefer the RS3. The M4 noise is pretty horrid in my imo. If i had to buy an M4 i would save a bit more and get a CS or potentially just an Alpina.
