rsi died and gone to heavan

  clio 1.6 16v rsi
Hi all.
Have just joined the forum and am after help already!

After years of whinging I finally got my hands on a smart rsi only to have it a couple of months and have it written off by the other half (don't know why everyone assumed it was me driving  ).
No injuries to us or anyone else, though, so just the car.

Anyhow, the bloke driving the recovery truck reckoned it would be a write off because there was extensive front end damage so we are just waiting for the insurance company to confirm.

Before I get carried away looking to see what I can next time from my insurance payout I was wondering if you could give me your opinion on what sort of amount I should be holding out for from the insurance company.

It was a 1.6 16v rsi, 2001 (X), racing green with 38K on the clock (can't understand how someone could have such a nice car and not drive it?). It was in really good condition, just a couple of tiny scratches on the paintwork.

Anyway, it had no mods (the only ting we did with it was put a nice set of firestones on). I don't know if the colour makes any difference to the value. I just know there aren't many of them around.

Your opinions would be most appreciated.

Cheers.

Hope to be back soon bragging about my new 172 ;)

dont know what you should be holding out for but i would suggest whst price you can buy it back off the insurance company for cos if its cat c or cat d theres always someone willing to buy it to put back on the road or if worse comes to worse with there only being a few on the road it might be worth buying back to break to make a bit more cash a friend of mine offered me a 172 the other day its either an 01 or 02 no mods and he wanted 4grand

2.5k plus a little maybe. Mileage was on your side at only 38000miles to be fair. What ever they offer you, don't except the first offer, always hold out for a little more.

Thanks guys.

I must admit I was hoping for a little more than that. Glass' valuation reckons that it would cost approx £3000 to buy privately and £3600 from an independant dealer (£4k from a franchise), and since the purpose of insurance is supposed to enable you to buy a car of similar type, well, I'll be disappointed if they offer me £2.5k (but not surprised).

I forgot to mention originally that there is also 9 months on the mot and it has a full service history. Since I've had it it's also had the air-con condensor replaced (under warranty) and a couple of coils replaced.

I've been having a nosy around - there's still very few for sale anywhere and the prices seem to range dramatically even though the spec seems the same (although, admitedly, I'm not very knowledgable about any things mechanical). Other than the mods mentioned at the end, the spec appears the same as the car Giles has for sale on this site (but his does look much prettier :) ). Maybe I should just post them a copy of his advert and ask if they'll give me enough to buy his ;) . Lol.

Do you know why the prices of the cars for sale vary as much as they do? Do you think I should mention the air-con and coils if it comes to bargaining with the insurance company?

Thanks again for your input.

"Danger Will Robinson, DANGER!"

Firestones and NICE?!

Tut tut.

Oh, and I got £2600 for a written on 1.2 Grande a year ago with just over 40k on the clocks. That was W reg'ed.

Allowed me to buy an X Reg'ed Si 1.4 16v.

the value will go off condition, so any pics you have will help your case. What you have spent on it maintenance wise will little bearing. But the MOT and FSH will help. Also any options it may have add value. Print off adverts that are favourable. Did you buy the car retail or private? again this has a bearing on it. If you bought it retail then its retail they will pay out, if you bought i private likewise.

Glass's is no longer really the industry standard. Ive found glass's to be all over the place. Most cars are valued off the CAP guide.

Thanks guys.

Am busy surfing the net to find some nice pics.

I've already had to send all of my docs to the insurance company so it shouldn't be too long before I get an offer (hopefully more than £2.5K as I bought the last one retail).

Thanks again for all your help.:)
