Had all these big big plans for this car but then a job in London starting over summer dictates that I have to sell it due to no parking

Need it for another 6 weeks then more details will be posed here under For Sale

Not a mark on it the next few things that were scheduled to be done were spraying the bump strips, widening the arches and bigger alloys.

not gonna happen now though

Can you rent a cheap garage somewhere? If you love it enough then youll take it with you! Or leave it at home? That house looks like its got plenty of space for a car to be left under a cover or something.

Ive got a job starting in September which will involve 40 miles a day of commuting along a country road. Ive worked too hard on my Valver over the last year or two to see its beauty disappear in winter stone chips and general cack, so Im planning while Im ahead.

Id never find another 16v with leather in the condition mines in, so Im not selling it. Id just want to buy another! Im looking for a garage lock up right now and am doing my research into £0-1000 diesel cars to get me too and from work.

Ben H - have a look at 205 diesels. They aint quick but the handling is superb. Infact, they drive just like the GTis! A mate has just bought one with the much nice phase 2 interior. Its got 150000 miles on the clock but is just totally reliable and fun to drive. Its not a tubo diesel though. Not sure if there were any turbo diesel 205s.

Rhys - the 205 diesel is right up there on my list! My current favourites are the ZX 1.9d (possibly a TD), AX 1.5d, 106 1.5d and 205 1.8d. I recall that there were some late 205 diesels with the GTi bodykit and suspension, which cost no more to insure!

they did a 1.5 Turbo Diesel towards the end no? or am I thinking of Novas

It was a 1.8 TD (for the 205) later on. The Nova was indeed a 1.5 TD. All of 60bhp!!

Mate has a 205 turbo diesel great car really rates handling etc cheap insurance very reliable so far touch wood but dont expect 50 mpg the older diesels arent that great more like 40. The zx is same chassis as 306 so great drive but sounds like a tractor. They did some bodykitted ones called a volcane not sure if it meant suspension changes or not though. The gti lookalike 205 is the STDT. What about 1.2/1.4 petrol engines? Nearly as much mpg but doesnt make you old.

Yeah, cheers. I was looking at the ZX Volcane, which is more or less identical to the petrol ones bar the engine, but they cost lots to insure. I prefer the diesel engines as they seem to take the miles better. At the price Im paying, the mileages will be over 100k. The Citroen AX 1.5d did 1000 miles on a tank of fuel in 1989 - 80+mpg!!

My budget is going to be about £1000! Thats to buy the car (£500?) and then insure it (I have to keep the Clio policy with NCB).

So insurance has got to be rock bottom! When the time comes, Ill reduce the mileage on my 16v policy and see if I can get an occasional use bonus??

Just to bring it back to my car though, the question is do I love it enough to hang onto it?

Sure its a great car to drive and its mint but at the end of the day its not a valver. Its quick (8.9 0-60) but again, not that quick.

I think I will have to do some soul searching but I think if this goes a valver may have to be on the cards ASAP after I find parking for one

If you do go for a Valver, then Id prepare to either hunt for ages for one as mint as you want it, or be willing to make a "project" out of a less than mint one. Theyre worth every penny though.
