RSi VS Valver.

  Clio 1.4RT
Whats the difference in speed etc? i noticed that on insurance quotes there isnt much in it so im interested as too just how different these 2 cars are????
Thanks in advance ^^

RSI's are slower bar in gear where they would pan a valver due to outright torque from the 8v engine. Both driven on the boil the valver is faster full stop.

im aware the RSi is 8v and the valver is 16v but is the difference really THAT much is what im saying.
If I was going for a mk1 I'd get an RSi.

Total Stealth Machine.

Lunners Rsi used to get panned, and then panned some more on williams clio track days and his had a couple of mods too.

some will be better than others... the problem with the Mk1's is the engines seem to vary in strength LOADS! My mate is now on his 2nd valver, his other one being a rusting heap on his drive, but the new one is no where near as fast as his old one and the new one is modded... the old one he has was completely bog standard and was identical with another mates 172 FF... the new one seems really slow tbh, but it's okay, it's being F7R'd in a couple of weeks :D

In general a valver would whoop one on a straight, but in gear the valvers have no torque so would get spanked. Another mate of mine had a really quick RSI a few years back and on paper the 0-60 isn't too far off a valver, but in the real world and after those speeds or even rolling from 40+ the valver 'should' own it.

some cars are gifted and some arent, depends how they are driven in there life, say you got 2 172's, one owned by a 60year old woman who never went over the spped limit and always changed at 4k revs and another owned by someone who new how to drive it, id give good money to say in a straight line the 2nd one would be quicker but may not live as long.

that's interesting actually, its a tough choice despite the valver looking more sporty i actually do like the simplicity of the RSi, seems too be alot more good condition rsi's out there, being young i dont want anything modified insurance is enough of a sting as it is.
sorry if i sound completely stupid but what do you mean by "in gear"?

Well insurance on the valver should be cheaper Lewis, dunno what group they are but valvers are fairly high, 15 iirc?

I'd personally get a valver as insurance is not a problem at my age, but the reason I'd get one is for the wider arches and more aggressive stance. If your hell bent on finding a minter though best bet is get whatever you can find thats the best for the money... even if it's an RSI it's only £150 from any none rip off garage to get them to just swap the engine over as F7P's can be picked up for nowt... in fact F7P head and Megane/Williams F7R BE (£300ish) would make a great sleeper and track toy.

By in gear, what I mean is say both cars are sat in 4th at 30mph, the RSI would win handily here due to the torque, valvers need to be driven on cam, therefore in gear they suck, so normally you'll find yourself dropping down a gear or two

ahhh i see thanks ^^.
that may be a good idea too find a nice RSi and get it converted at a later date.
actually the insurance quotes where not much different honestly, infact a 1997 Rsi was more expensive than a 1994 Valver... lol

i think it means when both cruising at a certain spped say both going at 50 and then both putting your footdown, the vavler would have nothing and the rsi would have more torqe which would result in it pulling away.
correct me if im wrong.

Yes but thats what gearboxes are for.

Go for a valver. Theyre quicker, handle better and look better..

  1.8 RSi MK1 Superchipped
I have had LOADS of fun withmy RSi, like th othjers said cos it looks like a 1.2/1.4 every lil corsa tries it on... and u can just scoot on outta there... esp once I got my induction, decat and chipped ECU in it...

as for the looks? well I got the valver bonnet, front bumper, wings and a smoothed boot door with spoiler going on in a week or so... so best of both worlds i recon :D
