Rules on driving other peoples cars ?

  Not a 320d
I believe you can drive someone elses car 3rd party, if both you and the other person are fully comp and are the main driver and owner of the car. Is this correct ?

I am the policy holder and owner of my 1.6 GT. Does this mean i can drive up to a 1.6 3rd party if the other person is fully comp + main owner, or could i get in my mates cup who is the owner and policy holder of that car and drive it 3rd party ?

Cheers. :S

there's no law it just depends on the company and your specific policy. Norwich union, privilege and swift do it providing you have fully comp and the other vehicle has 3rd party on it.

There has to be an insurance policy on the vehicle you want to drive and you also have to be fully comp.

A lot of companies are removing the 'any car' part of the insurance policy in an attempt to cut down costs.

the rich boys around my way use the quinn trick, they have micras parked up and left for dead insured with quinn direct. they then insure the car they want to drive in there dads name and dive it 3rd party. 18 yearold with a skyline, 19 yearold m3 makes me feel sick when there insurance is probably less than im paying on a 1.2 clio

Also, this is excactly whay most insurers are taking away the driving other cars extention for under 25's and it gets abused.

not everyone. I'm with Highway insurance and they state i will not be insured if i drove another car.

However i am unsure on the rules of me driving my dads car as it's a company car?

I use to be with bell, paid circa £30 last year to drive any other car (was 19 at the time) but now they have done away with it... and i've made the move to the light side anyway (brentacre :))

It really, really isn't . These people are driving around without insurance.. sure, on paper they look like they are insured.. in reality they are not. Have a claim and they may well be in a whole world of pain.

Well to the people who cant afford ££££'s it most certainly is.

Mine allows me to drive any car 3rd party with the owners consent, been the same ever since I passed my test, hence why I have had the benefits of driving a few fast cars such as a series 1 200bhp escort rs turbo, Vec 2.5 sri, Ph1 172, Octavia VRS, MG ZS 180 and Scooby STI import (300bhp) all since the age of 17 up until now.

All have been my parents car's and I only used them when they wasn't
