Rumbling under acceleration

This appears to be most prominent over 5k rpm. It appears to coincide with the steering feeling snatchy, and almost sounds like the car is hesitating/missing but not if that makes sense.

I've recently done the gearbox, water pump and aux belt tensioner, however a friend who has recently had his gearbox out seems to be experiencing something similar.

Any suggestions on where to look?

Turns out it was misfiring, a lead had been knocked off the coil pack slightly
