Running cams, matched inlets and a remap...

Car  Megane 250 FF / cup
Evening all, I would just like to ask I have owned my clio now for 2 years and it's completely standard. I have been considering 'tunning' it with Ktec's 438 camshafts, matched inlets and a map. My question is, would I actually notice a difference in the car? Or is it better leaving them standard.

Be great to hear from the lads and ladies who have these specific mods!

Elliott.

im going for 428's and a custom map at tour de force 1st feb so will post my results up this is mine at the moment with a ktec map on matched inlets

powerstation's RR, they always show HUGE losses through the trans, is that just a MAHA thing?

Agreed, my mates escort lost over 200bhp in the transmission when run up there, LOL

Would f**king melt the cogs if it was losign that much heat in the box and diffs I would think!

ive always used power station for all my cars i do trust there rolling road

this is ktec's print out on there old rolling road

The standard cams arent exactly very good, so any set of uprated cams more or less should make a decent improvement TBH!
Its a hard thing to get wrong unless you mess up timing them in!

Ktec seem to have a nack for getting very low "before" figures, 153 and only just over 130lbft, did they not remember to go to full throttle? lol

Was the cam timing out or something?

ive always used powerstaion for all my cars i do trust there rollers despite what people think of them each to there own i suppose lol

Weirdly their flyhweel figures seem to come out about right, so it seems like their at the wheels roller figures are out by a similar percentage to the ridiculous transmission losses!

i had a proper falling out with ktec they never gave me the print out after the matched inlets was fitted they mapped my clio before fitting the matched inlets and they never gave me the final result andy cutlaw promised me a free remap when they had there new rolling road installed but it never happened after spending £700 in one day so much for customer service will never go back there again

i had other work braided hoses with dot 5 fluid and pollybushed dog bone mount so much for customer service ive tryed loads to get my map adjusted as agreed but nothing they never return my calls feel well and truly let down never again

Thats not good to hear and why on earth would they spend time mapping the car before it's had the mod its gone in for! I don't blame you for not wanting to return mate. I'm sure TDF will look after you you will get an accurate RR figure before and after which you can use as a comparison rather than a before from one RR and then the after from another. Good luck with it anyway and let us know how you get on :)

Glad to hear there was other work too. sorry to hear about the lack of customer service though, they should be ashamed if what you are saying is true!

Well I'm not saying it for the fun of it this I why i went straight to my local rolling road ktec's excuse was that I came away with the wrong print out what ever despite the loads of phone calls trying to get car back in there they never bothered to ring me back great customer service that is

Ktec have fantastic customer service in my experinece. :(

When I had my cams fitted by ktec they showed a 18 bhp gain over the the TDF map that was already on the car, when the car went back to TDF to confirm this the car only made 10 bhp more.Basically ktec wiped the original map from the ecu and then remapped it with cams and told me they had made this massive improvement when they hadn't,car will not go back to them again.

Matt @ TDF will see you right! Had a set of 421's, matched inlets, panel filter, decat exhaust, one of matts ecu's along with a map from him and the car made 192bhp with 169lbs/ft torque. Car feels much better.. by miles!

To the point its booked in for itbs :) .... Cant wait!!

So the car made 10bhp gain (with cams) over and already mapped car. That's not *that* bad is it??!

It is a MAHA thing, Fred. I use PowerStation as my local dyno for gauging effectiveness of mod's and enquired as to why the apparent huge losses. I cannot recall the technical reason behind it off the top of my head but it does make sense and the readout suggesting the huge losses should not be interpreted as perhaps would be on, say, a Dyno Dynamics. If I can find the literature I'll post it up sometime.

The only thing I found with PowerStation is that the rollers were a little on the generous side but they seem very consistent. I just wish you and TDF were a little closer to Wales... *sigh*

tdf slagging off someone to a customer....how unusual

Don't get me wrong I am more than happy with the cams got good gains across the rev range, there was no need to bullshit me that's all,as for tdf slagging off ktec thats not what I said they did not say anything just that figure was about right for a cammed car.I took the car there for a run to confirm what I had been told by ktec, car made 180 there before cams went in and 190 after.

In response to the OP, I had the 438's, remap and a custom induction set up put on. Haven't got matched inlets though. Results were;

Before - 174.8 bhp, 157.6 lb ft
After - 197 bhp, 165.6 lb ft

So, yes, there is a lot of difference. It pulls like a train and i'm very happy with both the bhp and torque profiles. I had my work done at K-tec, and i've always had excellent customer service from them. I don't want to enter a debate about them specifically, i'm just reporting my own experiences. Hope that answers whether the Cams are worth it or not.
