Running rough, then cutting out!

  2004 Clio 182
My 182 has been running rough for a couple of weeks now, doesn't feel very sharp, sounds rough and when I pull up at lights or idle in traffic it gets very loud and burberly. As soon as you give it any revs to take it over idle speed the burble stops.

When I started it up this morning it sounded a lot worse and kept cutting out, I had to keep the revs up at 2000 even when stopped just to make it home. Also a bit of a wine coming from the engine but nothing obviously broken in the engine bay.

any ideas?

oh dear, i had this the day after i bought mine, is it knocking? mine was knocking awfully, and cutting out when ever it came to idle, and it ended being a big end failure, but if its not knocking, may just be a misfire, a plug lead may be arking out, or failed lead, spark plugs? i dont know, need abit more info, if there is any engine noise

Try your TDC sensor on top of the gearbox, mine doesnt like low revs and stalls if pulling off at low revs, ive tracked it back to the TDC sensor mate. see if you have black connectors going toi, theres a revised part with a blue connector. a common failure point
