rust repair questions

ok. over the past few days ive been having a go at repairing the rusty arch that valvers are prone to at the rear. i used the halfords stuff. zinc primer, followed my black pearlescent paint, and then the laquer. took off the masking tape today and its not exactly a great job. ive got a lip where the new paint meets the old bodywork. what would you folks recommend to try and blend it in a bit. i know the laquer needs polishing etc but i dont know what to use on it. not overly bothered about an amazing finish as the idea was to try and hold off the rust for a bit. any tips much appreciated

cheers mike

a couple of pics of what ive done. just the lip of the arch. bit of a mess but looks better than it did. ignore the gimp with camera.

it looked better with just the paint on but the laquer takes out the shine. ie needs some kind of smoothing.??

bit late now but what you should have done is rub down area and treat rust etc then masked off rear lights, wheels, door and glass.

should then degrase the whole panel and flat back the stuff around the repair section.

then when spraying blended in repair section with rest of panel - then you wouldnt have had a lip.

if you want to get rid of the lip now youll have to flat it all back til there is no lip at all then spray it again

hope this makes some kind of sense!!

oh dear! lol

You can let it harden for a while, then use their rubbing down spray compound. But jesus you made that laquer THICK!

easy people. if u dont wanna paint it again flat it lightly with p1500 or p2000 wetordry flatting paper. when your line starts to drag itself back slightly.. buff it up with some mopping compound.. i recommend G3, G6 or G10 (if u wanna rub a lil while longer).
