Rusting Paint on MK1 Titanium
Hi there all...

I have had my mk1 172 for nearly 2 years and its just gone in for its 12000 mile service..

I noticed just b4 it went in today that all over the paint has rust spots in it... i did hear of this problem mentioned b4... what can i do as its obviously the paint its self thats rusting..!!

Surely i must be covered by some sort of anti corrosion warranty.. i also have a yr left on my extended warranty.. do you think ill be covered as i suppose it will need a re-spray!!

I also developed an lot of road noise at the back of the car which is not related to engine.. sounds like a bearing/wheels but it only has just happened in the last 500 miles..

And everything was going so well...

One other point while im here.. i have 17" Kyros alloys fitted from the dealer and they are now rather bashed.. does any one know wheres best to get them re-furbished?

Any help would be apreciated and ill keep you posted on what the renault dealer comes back with...

It is a common problem on the mk1 in that colour, doesnt the car come with a anti corrison warrenty, take it back and tell them you want the whole affected panels respraying

Looks like the rear noise is a wheel bearing...

Once its been resprayed mate you shouldnt have a problem, I read about it a while back on here with a lot of people having the same problem, rusting around the rear tail gate mostly though. The joys of owning a french car!

Ye the clios have a long anit-corosion warranty.. but is only covered if it corodes from the inside out.. not from the outside in.. or somthing stupid like that. but It sounds like you will be covered..

I had a 9 month battle with the dealer when I had the same problem. Eventually had the whole car resprayed under warrenty. They were very reluctant though.

hi ian - ive lived with the rust spots for ages and dont really want to be without my car for so long. Did they do a good job respraying it? and did they put it back together properly once they had?

when I got my sideskirts resprayed cause of flaking they didnt even put the fog lights back in properly, the have to remove the bumper to get the side skirts for some reason, it was my GF that noticed the plastic surround aroudn the fog light was just about to fall off..

They did a fairly ok job. had what look slike a dirty thumb print on the bonnet but you cant see it when its polished, only when the car is dirty and light hts it a certain way. Inside the drivers door they seemed to not fully respray a bit as it feels rougher than the rest. I didnt notice either of these until a few washing sessions later.

BUT, they did take out car park dents from the doors and sort out the stone chips from the bonnet. This looks much better.

Overall it looks better than before though.

Thatd be mighty useful if you could forward them over to me if you woudlnt mind? Ive been meaning to get it sorted.

When i asked my renault garage they had a chat with me on the phone claiming i lived near railway lines and it was the sparks from the trains!! jokers.

Could you possibly send any contact details or steps you went through to get this sorted. As it is the same issue and theyve admitted it (by spraying your car) then they HAVE to sort our cars too!

p.s. mines iceberg silver, so its not refined to just titanium.
