Sagging Exhaust on Mk1

  S2000
Having lowered my car i've realised just how much my exhaust sags on the clio. Basically it hangs quite low on the centre section which attaches to the decat at one end and goes back towards the back box. The point it's lowest at is where it has a 90 degree turn.

When I fitted my current exhaust the previous one hung just as low and I had been told it was normal, but I just wanted to check if there is any way of sorting this?

I've always noticed tat when driving behind another clio you can see that the exhaust hangs quite low but ocassionally you see one thats fine, so I presume it can be sorted. The main problem is that there is such a big bit between the exhausts mounts.

If anyone has any solutions please let me know, otherwise I'll probably just try refitting the whole thing, but probably getting nowhere.

Thanks.

(I'll try and get some pics tomorrow)

I had the same problem mate! I tried refitting it maybe 7 times and in the end gave up for a bit.

I then went down to k-tec and they tried refitting it-wasnt having it. In the end we made a bracket up from the center section hanger on a side exit exhaust for a ren 5. We had to weld it on to the center section then at the back on the underside heatshield, we rigged up a suspension bush to fit so it would still be able to move etc. Then this just bolts onto the heatshield bolt.

Sorry if its a bit much but ill try and get some pics done tomorrow for you.

they all sag mate, not much you can do, i welded a strut piece accross the middle scilencer where it was flexing its fine now.

Thanks mate, pictures would be good even though it would probably be too much work for all I'm bothered about it. It's been suggested to me on another forum that it's possible to sort it by just setting up the join just after the midsection properly. I had thought about trying that before so that theres a bit more tension in it to hold it up so will give it a try in the next few days.

the tension to hold it up can be done by welding a small piece of metal from the pipe to the scilencer, ill get a pic of what ive done, very easy and simple.

The problem with it though if you dont fix it up with something its going to keep falling down! Especially if you have a full system. You need something a bit more permenant. K-tec did it for me in maybe half hour. Depends where you are though I guess!

cheers mate, Mine doesn't have a silencer either BTW, it's just a straight through exhaust to the back box.

I wish I could weld, would make things a lot easier.

mine doesnt have an actual silencer either but where th esilencer used to be it has a slightly bigger pipe, if yours doesnt have a silencer where isit flexing?

It's not flexing as such, it just that it hangs down quite a bit. It kind of gets gradually lower as you move further from the decat. The part where there is a 90 degree bend is the lowest part. I will try to take some pics tomorrow.

Heres what I did. 90 degree bend was worst for me too!

Thanks for posting the pics mate. Looks like a good way of sorting it. As I say I can't weld and I can't be bothered forking out for it but I might see if I can set something up to hold it up by wrapping round the exhaust. First thing is to tray refitting it though.

Bad pics as just held phone under car! but its hardly braking the bottom of the car underside. Well see if k-tec will supply the bits on cheap! Once you get them instead of welding drill a hole up the top by the top of pipe, then fold the bar around and drill a hole in the bottom and bolt the too bits together - although this will prob make a bit of a squel!

lolm exactly the way I was thinking of doing it.

I had the centre section rebent upwards to combat mine. I beleive the williams runs an extra mount near that area so you could do something similar...
