Sat Nav Recommendations Please

Lou

Car  182
Hey guys,

I'm seriously thinking about purchasing Sat Nav as I tend to go all over to watch /play football.

Any recommendations on decent units and places to buy!

Thanks

I've bought a TomTom GO 720 recently and it's great, I had TomTom on my PDA before and this is much easier. Comes with Western Europe maps as well. You can buy it for £230 now at Amazon or Dixons.

Hey guys,

I bought a Navman f20 and sent it back cause it was pants, replaced it with a TT one v2 more expensive but worth every penny IMO also the V2 has an SD card slot so you can "borrow" your friends maps :D on the new version 3 they took this away so i'm not sure if it's possible to load EU USA maps.

If you're putting it into a clio you'll need one of these too:

Love my Tom Tom, 1 drawback if you want traffic it uses GPRS via a bluetooth connection to your phone, so you need some data usage on your phone contract, and it's not cheap but you should be able to get it thrown in by your supplier i get 5Mb for nothing:D

Don't need a external aerial for my 720 and there is space for up to a 8Gb SD card :)

If you don't want the Europe maps then then just get the 520.

budget would be a hint, i'm looking for one about £100-£150 for my brother and dad. i wont pay £200+ as we wont really use them enough to warrent that price.

I have a garmin I3 it works prettu well for somethign that onl;y cost £80 but you cant get them any more but i've heard the Garmin Nuvi is pretty good for the money but you might need an areial but you can get them for £5 off ebay and work great.

Agreed, and if you drive loads like me, you tend to operate far better than a Sat Nav....they do as much wrong as they do right.

I'm happy enough with my Tom Tom One. Goes straight into the car and still works with the heat reflective windscreen.

I'd recomend the tom tom its not superb but for the price/usability etc its superb hence why its so popular

got a Navman N60i which is just a fantastic bit of kit .

girlfriend bought a tom tom go 720 a while ago, and took it back as it didn't touch the navman.

really big and wide, touchscreen display, fits in your pocket, clear mapping. got a camera that remembers where you were when you took it. huge amount of poi's, with phone numbers the lot. there's so many options... you can adjust, change, modify just about everything. only down side, is there are only 2 voices... man and woman.

have you got a nokia symbian phone???

tomtom runs off these

saves lugging tomtom about just leave a gps reciever in car and it connects to phone via bluetooth

i use a n73 and tomtom i got from ebay for 30 quid inc 2gb mini sd card and every map

works a treat it even came with latest speed cams installed and 1000s of points of intrest

youll need

nokia symbian phone ie n70 n73 6680 6630 n95 n93 n72 6600 etc etc
memory card i use 2gb
tomtom software i got it from a great seller on ebay with the 2gb card for 27 pounds
bluetooth gps reciever got from ebay for 25 pouds

i allready had the phone so it cost me 52 pounds for tomtom 6 with uk and every other map + speed cams for all the maps

the western europe map costs around 80 pounds anyways and thats without speedcams so this sellers deals were great

can point you right way if you want

nice1

TomTom GO 720 seems quite appealing as it includes Bluetooth connectivity and MP3 player!

I find the bluetooth very useful as it reads out text messages and you can use it for phone calls as well.

My 720 is ace, but.....

If I dial, I need to do it on my handset (is that the only way?) The call works flawlessly although quiet.

If I receive a call, I press ok but there is no audio.

Should be able to call a number by taping the screen -> Mobile Phone -> Call -> Number

I had the problem with the no audio yesterday as well actually.

they dont detect speed cameras as such more warn you about them thrugh a data base of points of interest, much like how you can set them to flag up petrol stations you can down load a database with all the speed cameras and knows mobile and temporary speed cameras a they can flag up what speed they are for.
i get mine from pocketgpsworld.com, its £20 a year but if it helps stop me getting points it well worth it. plus if like my house soon there will be 3 of us with navs and you have unlimited downloads its only£7 a year each.

arent radar detectors illegal.

i have got a garmin nuvi i paid £170 for it and its very easy to use, never had any troubles with it and it hasn't sent me the wrong way yet
