Saving for Williams

  Phase 1 172, boxster
How much would you reckon i would need for a decent williams? im 18 now and would like to get one by the time im 21/22, also which one would be the best choice of the three?

cheers

Anywhere between 3-4k will get you a very very nice one, 4k (ish) will probably get you mint example.

The newest williams (willy 3) is a 1996 - so you gotta remember that in three years time, the best car available now could end up a dog.
A normal williams will be an L reg (1993 - so already getting on) but there are some crackers out there if your prepared to put the time in looking for them.

by the time you're 21/22 youd better find David 'Cuprinol Man' Dickinson and ask him cos they'll be proper old!

i got one thursday on 38k 2 owners last owner had it since it was 600 miles old frsh in amazing condition for a car of its age for 4.2k.

just gotta see what the prices will be like in 3-4 years might go up for the good ones might still be dropping.
tbh when looking for one i wasnt looking for any specific model as there isnt much difference between them get a 3 and you have a newer one get a 1 and you have a older one just look for the best example as you can find.

Nahhh, KS will still have some tucked away in his garage ;) Probably got a stack of the original tyres too.

I've just realised that this dicussion is for a car he might get in 3 - 4 years time

More am gonna try my best to get, hopefully there will still be some good condition ones around, but if i cant then i'll use my money to get something else, a nice 182 could be cheaper by that time as well lol

I would imagine that when you 21/22 a williams would cost more than these days. Rarer etc...

A couple of people on here have spent a small fortune trying to get their williams running right. TheJesus spent a shed load and so did bigchris. The car will be getting on a bit as with any car of that age, things will start to go wrong. It's a french car at the end of the day and even the new french cars are known to be riddled with problems, let alone the 10-15 year old ones.

You say that jokingly.
Better save some extra money for things which will go wrong on it.

What things usually go wrong with it?

There 10 years plus old now and have often dropped to a price when work is neglected plus they were never driven slowly as there sports cars.

Also there a pain to work on anyway so you often find good mechanics don't want to work on them as there such a pain. Its the trainee who gets the jobs.

3 years is a long time away, think you may have missed the boat tbh, unless you will use it as a 2nd car as finding a nice example will be v tough

  Fiat Coupe 20v turbo
as above you've missed the boat.... go for a 172 cup they'll be cheaper than williams by then anyway.
