screamer.....

  FF 172
when accelerating, keeping to "normal" under 4000 rpm my car seems o.k. but when i use the power (when i boot it!) and the engine revs past 5000rpm on full throttle it starts screaming from the engine, not just revs a really shrill screaming noise, i also get a whooshing noise from the (std) exhaust.
the car is an 04 reg ff172
Anyone any ideas what this could be please?
thanks

do you hear a whistle when the windows donw on full throttle?

mine was whistling like a f**king turbo 3 days later the exhaust fell off...... lol
you got a point there, there isn`t a whistle but there is a swooshing type of sound

this could also be the problem with mine, it had a rear box on in may so maybe the (original ?) center box is knackered

......no it`s deffo not the exhaust, and it only makes the noise when the engine is on load, in gear and full(ish) acceleration,
anybody any idea`s please?

Still could be a little hole in the exhaust mate, as this might only show when the engine is under a heavy load.

Try it on some ramps to rule this out.

Does it happen at any speed, or just motorway speeds?

yep mine had no noise apart from after 3k on full throttle!
really?
mine does it in any gear at any speed, past 5000 rpm
i *so* hope it is the exhaust, i can use it as an excuse to fit an aftermarket one, and hopefully a sports cat etc
thanks folks, i will have to get it on some ramps
