screen keeps 'blinking'

  Fiesta ST
Bit of a problem has developed with my screen. Sometimes when I turn my pc on the screen 'blinks' for a second or two then the picture comes back. The monitor stays on but the screen just goes black for a bit. The amount it does it can vary. Sometimes I turn the pc on and it blinks so often and for a long time that i can't even see where im putting my cursor to restart the pc and sometimes (like now) it has done it once at log in screen and now, about 15 mins later, it started doing it again, but has now stopped! Most of the time the problem can be solved by turning the pc off for 10 seconds then restarting.

I've tried the obvious things, checking all the leads, updating drivers, but nothing has worked so far, its just getting a tad annoying! Does anyone know whats going on!?

Thanks.

Im not making this up but I had exactly the same problem on an XP system.. I thought it was the graphics card going faulty.. I installed linux on it and I have never had the issue since.

Im not saying install linux.. just saying its not always a hardware thing.. Does it only do it when booted into windows or has it ever done it while at the BIOS post screen ?

When its starting up it doesn't stay on bios for very long so i don't know, it has done it while the windows loading screen has been up though.

  A blue one.
I've seen this before on XP (only on a single machine though), I never could fix it!

degauss is a way to demagnitise your monitor IIRC. Not really used on monitors nowadays but some monitors automatically degauss themselfs which would cause the screen blanking... it also makes a kinda "dooph" noise aswell so probably not that ;)
