Sealant on RB?

When I went down to Russ for my enhancement detail the other week, Russ suggested that RB may look better with a good sealant. This was something I hadn't fully considered before.

The car is getting a good clean on Saturday and I want it looking tip-top as always, so my question is:

Which sealant would be best for RB paint?

I want it to be;

Glossy
Offer good protection
Long lasting
Easy to apply
Smell nice.

In that order

I've looked at the following up to now and already I'm confused!

Zaino Z-2
Zaino Z-3
Zaino Z-AIO
Chemical Guys Wet Mirror Finish


I'll be placing the order tonight, so your help would be hugely appreciated

CG WMf isnt great. I wouldnt bother.

I used Jeffs Carnauba sealant on mine . Long lasting and the carnauba gave an excellent depth in shine. Zaino stuff is great and crisp but i have never seen it on RB, my instinct would be to say it wouldnt give a very deep shine on a RB a shiny result but not that deep wet look.

Russ suggested it would look better/crisper with a sealant, would you agree with that? Having had Zymol Carbon on your RB as well...

I'm lead believe that AF toughcoat does contain a degree of carnuba in it so may work well but I've mainly used it with silvers. Werkstat carnuba instead of the acrylic jumps to mind

I would usually say Werkstat but I can't recommend it over Zaino in this case.

Z2 2 layers with Z6 or Z8 wipe downs. I love the Zaino system it's superb.

I think it'll give a slightly better finish and it'll last longer.

The finish Z2/Z8 gives is really impressive.

Jett Carnuba looks dripping wet when it's layered up. Durability is questionable though.
For ease of use and durability I'd say Tough Coat.

Jett Carnuba looks dripping wet when it's layered up. Durability is questionable though.
For ease of use and durability I'd say Tough Coat.

Not too arsed, depends on timescales, I want it to look good in the same time a wax would look good?

The Zaino system sounds clever, but it also sounds a PITA with all this accelerator business?!

You don't need to use the accelerator. It makes it quicker but it's not necessary.

Forget Zfx mate. Just buy some Z2. Used if you can and maybe a bottle of Z8 or Z6 if you want to save a few quid.

I'd buy something like Prima Amigo for applying before my Lsp.

Surely that wouldn't add that much to the finish, it has very few swirls in it after last weekend?

Or does Amigo add more to the finish than just filling properties?

From my experience with amigo, it not only fills but it cleanses well and leaves an excellent gloss on the finish.

Not too sure how it would work with a sealant i thought they are supposed to be applied to fresh paint after an ipa wipe down?

Forget the Amigo for now. Buy the Zaino from i4D and get it delivered before the weekend mate.

Nano sealants need ipa before applying, not normal sealants.

Ahh right, so without sounding stupid whats the basic differences between a nano sealant and a normal sealant?

is it in the way they bond to the paintwork?

I don't have any experience with the zaino system but I guess typically a sealant will work best onto a clean surface, but with the likes of jett and TC this isn't quite so important. but these also give a little more gloss IMO whereas sealants that require that clean base to perform generally leave a cold sharp look

Nano sealants and ceramic nano sealants bond to the paint on a different level. They requires bare paint surface to bond to and are very fussy.

Nano/ceramic sealants in general offer better durability. Ceramic ones actually improve scratch resistance because they cure rock hard and become part of the paint.

All lsp's have their plus points. It's all about what you want.

I'd never recommend a ceramic nano sealant to someone new into detailing unless someone else was applying it.

I was just thinking about the semi permenant sealants (C1 for example) whilst walking rounds asda. Do you think they will fill defects and RDS by self levelling when they are still in a state of low viscosity. And by the same token would they fill or accentuate orange peel on vertical panels?

It will fill tiny tiny imperfections in the paint. If that there is no doubt.

The finish on the paint is darkened depending on colour.

It wouldn't accentuate orange peel. Any sealant would leave a similar finish.

The upside to the like of C1 is it's actually protecting the paint like a coat of lacquer. Hence the hardness.

Jeffs durability is excellent and the shine was great. Zaino stuff would be better suited to a metallic paint rather than RB.

Possibly, Z5 is more suited to darker colours also but there isn't much in it.

I wouldn't hesitate to use Z2 on a flat "solid" colour.
