Seat Belt

Hi All,

Got a problem with my Phase 1 172 drivers side rear passenger seat belt.
It appears to have jammed and wont pull out or retract.
I've taken off the interior panels (Major ball ache and cut fingers) and removed the seat belt, took off the top platic cover could not find anything wrong so sprayed a load of WD40 into the mechanism which seemed to fix it put it all back together 1 day later it has jammed again.
Is there an easy fix for this or is it just a replacement if so will Renault be able to provide the original colour belt and how much are they.

It may be that the inertia mechanism has become clogged with fluff from the belt as it has been rubbing on the retract reel.

I wouldn’t spray anything inside the mechanism as that could make things worse by binding all the dust and rubbish together.

Remove the assembly and blow it through with a high-pressure airline and look very carefully at the condition of the webbing.

Check the operation by holding it in your hand whilst pulling the webbing out and allowing it to retract. It sometimes needs it all pulled out to realign the webbing.

The angle that the retractor is mounted at is very critical and only a few degrees out from vertical will lock it up.

If you are in any doubt that it’s working correctly, replace it as this is something that could save your life and it’s just not worth taking a risk.
Don’t buy second hand belts as they may have already been stretched in an accident.

its got a pretensioner on it = expensive from renault!

Thanks for the info. I will take it out again and have another look. But I thinks its gonna have to be a new one from Renault. So much for the Nintendo Wii I was gonna buy :dapprove:

When you pull it out, post a picture of the reel so I can see which version you have, I may have some more options for you.
