Self tinting

  MK2 P1 1.4S
Being a poor student, I am considering trying my hand at tinting my car myself. Has anyone ever here ever tried this? I was reading up on the process, and it seems manageable. Does anyone also know of some good quality (road legal, not really dark) films that I could buy?

Cheers

no idea. my mate did his ka, and said it was easy enough to do the rear quarters but the rear screen was an arse.

achievable, but with the price of tinting your probably best saving to get it done properly.

ive been quoted from 150-240. depends on the company, and the attention to detail

I'm doing my own next week... it's about £15 per roll. You can do 2 side windows with each roll......

I tried this and failed on my fiesta!

Worst modification I've ever tried to do in my life!!
& I've done a lot!!

I'd save to have the pro's do it!

Though that doesn't mean it isn't possible of course!

The tint stuff you buy from halfrauds is rubbish, too flimsy! Company's like Tinthaus or autotint use much thicker film.

I paid 160 for mine allround on my old car.

That's one of the reasons I was asking here, the only stuff I found looks like cellophane! I'm pretty sure thicker film is easier to apply too.

Anyway, the pricing isn't as bad as I thought, so I might as well just wait a while and get it done professionally.

Here are my tint that I have done myself.. must admit it is hardwork but 'this time' I stuck with it. Took about 3hrs...just thought I'd prove ya don't have to pay the pro's to get what ya want ;)

The tints are dark smoke....halfords are useless for advice on legalities so I thought I'd risk it.... if i get told to take them off then I will......

You say you will take them off if you are asked to. Thing is if you get a nasty cop etc they will give you a fine and 3 points on the spot + ask you to remove them.

Good work anyway.

lol they'll bubble and peel in no time ;) only messing, looks good and proves it can be done well :)

they can confiscate your car as well, my mate had his fiesta confiscated because he had 75% all round minus the front windscreen.

its not an endorsable offence, they'll issue a vehicle defect notice which requires you to take it to an MOT station to prove its been removed.

I payed 180 for an all round job in light smoke on my old saxo vts, it looked superb, i have seen this attempted before and watched the pro do it, he used a number of specialist tools inc Talc Powder!

save and go for the pro mate, plus if it comes off etc you've someone to go back to.

that link to the window tinting laws aint accurate, unless it has been updated, it does state 2004, 6 months ago i emailed the local bobby station to give info on tints

he told me that the windscreen must let 75% light through, and the front 2 side windows a minimum of 70% light, there is no limit on back doors (3/4's for us) or

a lot of new cars come out of the factory with windscreen already tinted so surely this quashes the 'no front tints at all' statement

i paid 150 for mine. looked at doing myself but realised its one of those things unless your the most patient person in the world, pay someone to do it.

i was told that the glass on clios are already at the legal level so any tint on fronts is illegal.
