selling car - best way to accept payment

got a punter travelling 50 miles to see my car on tuesday so he must be interested if i do manage to do a deal whats best way to accept payment? not interested in cash incase any dodgy notes, is bankers draft the best way or accept personal cheque until it clears? just a bit wary of getting done

do a wire transfer. staright from his bank to yours. make sure ya ring ya bank to make sure the moneys their. do not accept bankers drafts as their are loads of dodgy ones floating about. the bank even clears them but then 30 mins laters takes the money back. neraly been done me self.

A bank transfer still takes 3-4 days to clear. Or is this different to a wire transfer?

Personally Id go for a bankers draft or cheque and not release the car until it is cleared.

Why not just take him to your bank with the cash Alymac? How long now till you get your 182? I have been messed around with delivery dates and am thinking about cancelling my 182 and ordering through carselect.

when i bought my car i paid the lad with an online bank transfer! we are both with natwest so it cleared instantly!

You can do a CHAPS payment from your bank which clears the next day, think it cost about £25 when I had to do it to buy my house.

Like Gambler said, a CHAPS transfer is the safest way, and in most cases it clears the same day. Some banks only charge £20.

Get him to write a cheque and make it payable to CASH, if he takes it to his bank then they will cash it for him, and if you go too you can have the cash tehre and then, then it aint too much of a mission to visit your bank and pay the cash in

what ever you do do not accept a bankers draft as i said before fake ones will clear but it can take upto 2 weeks for the bank to relaise they are fake and by law, they are allowed to retrive the money back from you.

Get him to pay you in bullion. Crowns, goblets, medalions and the like. Take him down to your local pirate shop (otherwise known "a bank") and have them authenticate his treasure.

Go for cash if you can, but make sure to count every note, and check every note too. I sold a car once and guy had tried to short change me £100! He paid up when I mentioned it, idiot.

and dont take a bankers draft unless you go into the bank with him and watch it being drawn
