Serial ATA.... HELP!

  Clio 197
Can't get this damn thing to work.

I have a normal IDE HDD - for which I've removed the Jumper to make it a slave.

My motherboard is not recognising the SATA drive, so I've set the jumpers to manually set it up.

So, that's been done.... but how on earth do I make it a primary master ? ?

:S

What i was thinking you should have no jumpers to set on a SATA drive they auto configure. Just make sure its plugged in right and if you plugged in the power cables just 1 daft question some of the drive can take both standard power cable and the sata power cable type...If yours is like this you didnt plug both in did you? Cause the drive would go pop if you did.

Otherwise make sure you have sata enabled properly on the motherboard

Try this maybe
go into your CMOS/BIOS and select the option

Set default settings

then check that SATA drives are enabled

Ok... it's all working.

I have Primary Master as my SATA.... and my secondary Master as IDE HDD.

(I had to move my IDE HDD to IDE Cable#2, so that it was not the default primary).

Question: How do I get myself a boot-menu? Ie, how to I get the computer to ask me which disk to boot from?

Also, a slight technical issue: the SATA is not recognised every time I start the machine... sometimes it is, and sometimes it isn't.

Check there isnt an updated bios for your motherbaord, they normally fix problems such as yours.

The boot order is in BIOS. If your mobo is pre 1999 it wont pick up a SATA drive IIRC.
