SERIOUSLY, HELP! (FAO Fred/Other Techie's)

Ok, so driving along last night, went over a small bump, and bang, whole car shakes on idle like a nutter, stops a bit when pulling away.

Couldn't see what was up in the dark, but upon closer inspection I've snapped something big, the bit that connects to the engine mount.

Two bolts have snapped right off in the engine, no idea what to do about this. Only one bolt left:

Pics:

First snapped bolt:

Second snapped bolt (can't really see it, but you can see where its missing from)

Both:

Ok, so seriously, WTF am I gonna do about getting these out???

Weld a nut to the top and undo them.

I take it the engine mount was fubar'd and when you hit a bump it shook the engine?

(You're having fcuk all luck with that car!!)

That's the cambelt cover as far as I'm aware? Wouldn't be driving that incase any bits have got down there and tangled up in the pulleys etc!

Daniel, my son, as far as I could tell the other day, the mount was ok? Had a shake of the engine etc and all seemed solid.

I also just tried to replace the top GB mount and the thread on the big centre bolt was spinning with the bolt? WTF!?

I'll have to get someone to weld a couple of bolts on top then, nice idea, hopefully it won't cost me and arm and a leg.

As for having no luck, you're f**king telling me!

EDIT: Cambelt cover, SRS? I've already drive it about 4 miles, all be it very gently....

Need to drive to mechanics ideally... :S

So what have I snapped?? i.e what are Renault going to bum rape me for now?

  anything i get
as above, weld a nut if you can , if not you may have to drill and tap it out,
3rd bolt looks loose to me , if they were not done up properly last time was out this could cause that , seen it before , or a mount as daniel said.
s**t luck that.

The spindle being loose on the GB mount is common apparently, need to go in through the passenger side wheel arch and tighten it up from underneath.

Ah ok, hopefully Two Tech's can sort me out, they're good guys, and as long as it's not impossible, I'm a bit more chilled. Cheers.

Ah great information which I can pass on, cheers, I'll be getting it done at the same time now... (yay)

As above, any ideas wtf I've snapped? Have to order one on tuesday...

A mate ur having no luck with that thing lol.

What id do is give them both a good few hits with a hammer and punch, just to shock them (Helps Loosen Things..) Then get a Drill, drill in the centre of the bolt, a good bit down, then scew a stud extractor into it and just take them out that way.

Or as above weld a nut on if u can.

surely the bolts will come out with just some mole grips as there is no no tension on them as the head of the bolt is not there??

I may be wrong but do you now only have one bolt holding that side of the engine up?

The nuts haven't ever been tightened by me, so no idea what has caused it tbh.

Now wtf is that part that connects to the engine mount?!?!? i.e the bit of metal I've snapped.

As in pictures of the mount for sale (on NWP's website) its not part of what is sold.

I meant who ever fitted it last :rasp: lol.

That bit that's snapped, I do see them pop for sale in the forsale section, other than that I think it's something you'd have to get from Renault.

Get one from Cliospares/for sale section on here.

They are only going to be a couple of quid i'd have thought.

Looks like the cambelt cover, a local garage might help with the snapped bolts, then it's just replacing it and reattaching onto the top engine mount.

As long as the other mounts are ok, it should be grand to just replace the cambelt cover. But i wouldnt be driving it much if theres only one bolt holding the engine up.

If that one goes there'd be a sh*t load of pressure on the driveshaft

Its only a cambelt cover, its not part of the engine mount don't panic!!

The cambelt cover IS the engine mount. It's not just a f*cking cover!

The offside of your engine is being held up by one bolt.

Extremely risky to drive.

Yep!

The advice given in here is shocking. You all deserve bans.

Now he's gone and driven it. I hope he gets there ok!!

Facepalm.

Three mounts.

Offside: "engine cover" mount.
Nearside: Gearbox spider mount
Nearside: Dogbone mount

Now that chap's driven his car with one 17mm bolt holding the weight of his entire engine. And it's the belt side too. If the mount goes, the AC compressor and Acc. belt doesn't have a fun time either.

Hello chaps, I haven't driven it anywhere. Just went to KFC in a friends car.

So you wouldn't drive it 10 miles then??? lol!!!

Cheers for round two of advice, thank god I didn't go flying off in it, LOL!!!!

Fred, how much would doing something like this cost roughly??? PM me if you want, I'd just like a ball park figure from someone in the know...

I wouldn't even start it!

You have one bolt doing the job of three, AND it's doing it at a weird angle. Not ideal.

Just text him telling him not to drive it.

(*edit, too late he's back now! lol)
