serv light on, why

bum, just picked up my new 172 yesterday and the service indicator has started coming on intimitantly, its not due a service until february

does anyone know what might cause this?

Oil level o.k? My oil level indication was playing up (saying oil level o.k but it wasnt) causing serv light to come on.

Try checking the oil level

The erv light indicates a failure not when it needs servicing. You should get another light the serv light isnt normally activated on its own.

yes! the airbag warning light comes on with it, oil level appears to be ok, all the little squares come on but Ive not checked in manually yet.

had this on my dynamique... took mine in and they sorted it was a problem with the wiring under the drivers seat

said it wasnt dangerous to drive unless i crashed cos airbags wouldnt work!!!

The airbag wire is under the drivers seat, and with the cars having 3 doors, the seat is being moved back and forth to let people into the back...the cable gets pulled and the light(s) come on. Its warranty work, and they just extend the cable so the light doesnt come on. (PS. Its warranty if car is under 3 years old).

donnyo I have the same problem with serv light & air bag. If I pull the seat forward to let someone get in the back the light turns off and when I put the seat back it turns back on, do you think its the same thing as you mentioned?

How long do you reckon it would take to fix as my car has no warranty left

i think its actually the seat belt pre tentioner wires, its the dodgy snap on connector blocks, reno just chop em off and soldier the wires together, thus eliminating the blocks, think they just get loose/high resistance joints in them etc

that was the fault on mine anyway

Probably is that because I have had a look and all the wires seem fine to me.

I used to get this problem with mine, I found it was the wires under the passenger seat, just give them a wiggle & the light will go out.
