Service and Airbag light help..

  182, SRT8, RS4, GT-R
ARGH! I went to the garage to get my car valeted and when I returned to drive off, the airbag light and service light is on. Nothing appears wrong with the steering wheel. I think they've knocked something? If i switch the car off and then start it again it won't appear for maybe 5 seconds then it comes on again.

Shall i disconnect the battery or do i need to take it into Renault for them to wipe the error? Any ideas what might of happened?

Its the wires under the seat. Usually the passenger side. Make sure the connectors are secure and wiggle them about till the light goes out

As per this thread

Common Clio problems
http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=108607

Seat belt warning light

The SERV and AIRBAG lights come on its a common problem (almost every has it) its due to the wiring of the pretensioners going to an open circuit. Fiddle with the wires under the seat an the problem will go away.
On the early cars the solution is to look under each of the seats. You will see a grey connector.
On the passenger side disconnect it and cut the Blue and Brown wires off both sides. Then solder the Blue wire to blue, and the Brown to the other brown. Make sure you use insulating sleeves over the soldered connections..
Under the driver seat there are two pairs of wires in the grey connector.. Only cut the Blue and Brown wires and solder them together as above.. Reconnect the connector..
On the facelift cars it is ONLY the passenger side connector that is affected.. So again cut and solder the Blue and brown wires.

Shows they did a decinet job cleaning it.

Legend, thanks guys. I'll have a good wiggle then get the bad boy soldering iron out if needed.

Yeah not a bad job Edde, btw, thanks for the email, very helpful.

  Clio 1.4 16v
Hi Chaps. this is my first post here. I was driven to find this site by some problems with my recently aquired 2002 1.4 16v Clio. One of those problems was the airbag and service light which is no fixed after reading 'edde's helpful post. I just want to add that my car is the facelift model and the problem connector was in fact under the drivers seat, not the passenger seat as earlier suggested for these models.

Alittle off topic but, I just have moved over from UK to Athens and bought a Clio instead of the default choice (Seat Ibiza 1.4 101bhp) The Clio has superior ride quality, better steering feel and wonderful lift off oversteer (especially on these sliipery roads!) and more airbags. I had two clio company cars in UK (A 1.2 AND 1.5DCI) both of which I ragged from new until 12,000 miles. They were perfectly reliable so I thought I'd get one over here....

I didn't bank having problems with only a 56,00km car though. It has just gone in to an indie specialist to have two coils replaced for e150.00 including labour. The previous owner had two coils replaced by Renault main stealer for e200.00. This was 3000km's ago. Now the other two have gone...By the way the 60,00km service cost the previous owner e800.00!!! They charge labour at e44 per hour. So I guess main stealers are the same no matter the country...

The car also needs new dampers soon. I think for only 56000km this is pretty poor but the roads are incredibly bad here...

Well I hope this is the end of my troubles with the car. It is a cracking motor otherwise and the handling provides me many smiles. My last car in UK was a BMW 330i and thought I would not get much oversteer with a little front drive hatch, but on these roads this car provides even more entertainment and is far easier to control. A weekly dawn run on a local mountain pass makes me forget all the rattles, squeaks, service bills and keeps the enthusiasm for the car alive.

That said, I am still a little pessimistic after seeing that the personal transport for the Renault Specialst garage mechanic is Mini Cooper S as his personal car on which he has put Brembo's, BBS Wheels, uprated intercooler, Dampers etc. I was going to ask him why he didn't have a Cup or Trophy but I am scared of what his answer will be...

PS: Great site guys and it has proved most valuable in helping me diagnose the faults so far. I look forward to contributing and helping where I can.
