service, cam belt & aux belt £1000

  Clio 182
Hi all, I've just booked my 182 ( 04 plate) in for the 36k service and i'm having the aux and cam belt changed as well. The best quote I could find was £1000 including all belt kits, at renault in Coulsdon (so I booked it in).

They originally quoted £1600 but when i told them that my cheapest quote was £1014 they gave me the above quote.

Is this a decent price?

I also wanted to ask about getting the water pump changed at the same time. Is it worth doing? I know it is on some other cars, but not sure about the clio sport.

Sounds to me like they've had your pants down.
I'm sure GDI / Birchdown / Rentech / K-Tec etc would work out cheaper, and they probably know more about the RS Clio's than the Renault mechanics do.

Still high mate.

Where are you from because there are loads of specialist that will do it for half that price.

I was pretty shocked when I started ringing around, but out of 4 local renault garages £1000 was the best price.

I'm in the Croydon (south London/surrey) area. Anyone know of any other garages that might give a better price?

What is a decent price to be paying?

  It's A Reno
That is silly money for what they're doing.

If I was you, I'd travel and save at least £400.

Original quote of 1600 quid!!:eek: If that was 1600 quids worth of accident damage chances are you'd have your car wrote off.

Are Renault taking the pi55 seriously. Its a poxy f**king Clio for gods sake not a Ferrari.

From reading on here the average price seems to be 5 - 700 for aux and cam belt changes.

Not a clue on the service costs.

"Clio 172/182 with air conditioning.

Gates timing belt kit with renault auxiliary belt kit including cam seals £421.67 fitted. Fully inclusive of vat.

Renault timing belt kit with renault auxiliary belt kit including cam seals £464.40 fitted. Fully inclusive of vat"

The Gates timing belt and Renault timing belt come off the same production line so i'm told, but are stamped up differently!

Just got of the phone to rentech in Portsmouth and got a quote for £700 for service, cam & aux belt. A bit of a mission but I booked it in anyway as I'll be saving £300.

Had to sell it to my missus as a day trip to the coast but she came round.

Thanks for the advice.

Totally agree. Somethings not right with that like. Dealers dont usually bargain down

Gates kit = Renault kit

took an OE belt off earlier, had the renault diamonds on it and renault part numbers, next to it "Gates Powergrip"

  RS 172+
I had similar done at K-Tec. My bill was £1200 but that included a remap, K-Tec filter. K-Tec springs, new dampers and an MOT!

For your work I am sure sub £1000 is possible with them!
