Service history!

  clio sport 172
Alright every1, i have recently brought a 03' plate 172, i was told when i brought it that it had service history etc etc, anyway when i went to pick it up he told me he had left the service book at home by accident as he met me somewhere closer, he told me he would post it and he did sound genuine, well 2 weeks l8r and no book, got on to him today and he rekons he sent it nearlly 2 weeks ago, no recorded delivery or nothing so looks like i have no service history, do you think when i come to sell i will loose alot because of this..

cheers!

The dude probably never had any stamped book at all. If you have bills etc with dates & mileage on that's not so bad. If you have no bills etc, get the name of the dealers he went to (if he did) and get a print out of the invoices.

If you can't get anything together, you'll find it hard to sell the car.

I'd say most buyers wouldn't buy a car with no proof of service history. Stamps, bills or whatever - but most people want stamps - and especially with Clios, there are plenty on the market to choose from, so there is no need to buy the ones without history, as there are plenty out there with a full history.

So yea, I'd say it would be harder to sell a car with no history, they would certainly have to be cheaper. Personally I still wouldn't buy one with no history, regardless of price, but that's just me :)

As above

I don't thin it'll be impossible to sell but you may have to drop the price a fair bit to shift it.

In that case what sort of price would you say i should put my car up for as im after a glanza, its a 53 clio 172 standard, standard wheels in dark grey, 50k all books reciepts aprat from service book, excellent cond just 2 bad point really tiny dent on pass arch and has suffered some picking on steering wheel lol not bad though, could people just give me a rough price to put it up for or if any1 is interested make me an offer!

Are the receipts of services etc? If so, I'd say that was reasonable and you wouldn't lose much by not having the service book. If I was looking to buy it though, I'd be ringing all of those garages on the reciepts for confirmation of work done. If all was ok and I was happy with the car, then I'd take it.

Don't forget tho, cambelt needs doing soon, its 5yrs old nearly, not cheap on a 172.

On autotrader prices seem to be all over the place, I'd put it up at £4700 if cambelt is done and you have all the receipts that can be verified. If no cambelt, I'd say about £4400. If no valid receipts or cambelt, I'd say £3500ish in my opinion, as you can't verify the mileage and it could be a bit of a ticking bomb on the wallet. I wouldn't touch a car without history unless it was a ridiculously cheap bargain that I could spend the difference on it and I could know personally that the car is ok.

You bought it on the condition it had a history. It doesn't. Take it back for your money back, if he won't play, small claims court online.

Was it meant to have full dealer service history?
The dealer that did the work should have a record of this, parts will sell you a knew service book and the dealer will stamp it up to correspond with their records.
