Service/Oil Advice

Car  LY V6 with Recaros
I've just booked my car in for her 12K service, I've heard people on here saying they have supplied their own oil as the one renault use is the wrong one or not very good, is this right? If so, what oil should I get, and how can I be sure they will actually use it?? And does it reduce the cost of the service?

Thanks :)

I'd make sure that the dealership you get it done at will be putting in Fully Synthetic 5 40W oil for starters.
If not, then supply your own and make sure they don't charge you as much as they would if they were supplying their own oil.

As for make of oil well its all down to how much you want to spend. Don't start worrying if you get something different to what everyone else insists you should use. I personally use Shell Helix as i get for nowt at the workshop i work in but any of the well known brands are fine.

Hope this helps!

buy it from http://www.opieoils.co.uk/ - you get a discount. Best stuff for a 182 is Silkolene 5w40. I personally wouldn't go to a dealer for the service but eac to their own. Ask for the bottle back or ask to see the bottle if your worried that they may not have used it. I don't think they'd stuff you like that as there is no benefit for them to do it.

Should reduce the cost by £50 ish. maybe more depending on the service quote.

Thanks! I'll call the dealers and ask. I don't really want to go to the main dealer but they are near to me, and as I'll need to go to work after i've dropped it off, I can't really go far.

Are you taking it to Renault Romford ? (the one by Gallows corner)
My dad takes his 172 there & has never had a problem with them at all - yet. He says they are actually quite good.

Yeah, Renault Romford. Well that's a reassurance, thanks, I didn't have any idea if they were any good or not! :)

Using Shell Helix at the mo. Seems to do the job and i've heard it's good. Good luck with the service.:)

Yeah I never had any problems when I took it for repair, so hopefully they'll be ok.

My car has done over 12K, and it's not booked in until mid next month, which by then will be 2/3 hundred miles over, that doesn't make a difference does it?
