Service, parts help?

  BMW F31
ok gonna do a service with a friend

i need to know how many litres of oil i will need for a 1.6 16v the best stuff/place to get?
also where is the best place to get an oil filter?
fuel filter? is that worth it?
spark plugs?
and an aux belt? i have looked on gsf r.e the aux belt and im confused.

iirc someone off here told me the 1.6 16v doesnt have spark plugs :S wtf? not sure if thats true is it?

You will need 3.7 litres, 5w40w is ideal, elf, shell helix or silkolene fully synthetic. The fuel filters & aux belt (might aswell do the cambelt aswell) are good until 72k miles, check the spark plugs they should be done at 72 but inspect them anyway.

cheers dave, i have found the right spark plugs but the aux belt, fuel filter and oil filter are foxing me.

the gsf website has a R13125TIMING BELT-XS CLIO 1.6 16V 98>

assuming thats what they call the aux belt?

but they also have a ribbed belt pack??

cant find a fuel filter on gsf for my car, any ideas where to get one from? halfrauds?

and the same for the oil filter?

R12009AOIL FILTER CLIO EXCEPT 1.2 DIET

found that on gsf but it doesnt say year etc?

sorry for all my questions but i seem to have to come to brick wall in terms of finding anything :(

You dont want that oil filter its just a element you slot in a plastic cover. Try renault they are not too taxing, about £7-8, I could give you the part numbers if you give me the codes off the vin plate.

would 10w40 oil be ok if i cant get any decent 5w40 brand oil.

does anyone know where i can get the elf excelium oil?

Timing belt is a cam belt (so not what you are after) and yes, 10w40 will be fine, the 10w just means it will be thicker at start-up = less protection than 5w.

NO!! Castrol Magnatec is a mineral 'based' oil that has been synthetically engineered, i.e. not a true synthetic.

The oil molecules that supposedly stick to the engine, in its description, is pure marketing blurb.

Its a shite oil, i have used it in the past myself and it just doesn't last. If you use it, check it after 2000 miles or so, it will be proper black, then you will know what i am on about.

ok, i have seen some total quartz 9000 5w40 fully synthetic oil on gsf, seems like a very good price so i think that'll be ok wont it?

does anyone know about the drivebelt cost?

No need to touch the fuel filter its fine for 150k.

That belts sound like the cambelt you want an AUX kit. Cambelt will be £80 ish aux belt about £30 ish.

There a few different belts idealy work out how big yours is and use that to buy the right one.

Oil fitler Halfords or personaly use Renault £7 or so and you'll know its the right one I'd use the aux belts as well least them you don't need to work out if you've the right ones.

thanks for that edde, i bought a champion oil filter off here from pye21 and i have ordered a new aux belt from my local renault independant garage was £16 something +vat

  172 cup,s2 rs turbo
for service items and cambelts go for gen renault everytime.

for a 1.6 16v you need just over 5 litres of oil.

the reason they dont list fuel filter is that its inside your tank sender unit so would mean changing the complete unit. as eddie states however the change interval is getting on for 150k
