Service Woes - 172

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes:

I left our lass to it this time, telling her what she should say/do when booking the car in for service etc, she decided to give it a go (considering its her car and why should I get involved, eqaulity and all that ;) )

Booked in with a local garage who were the cheapeast @ £160 + VAT for a 36K service on a 172. Note: not doing the accessory belt.

She books it in and drops it off the next day.

1st phone call: You need some new brakes, I've ordered you some discs and pads....
- Hold on a minute, who told you to go ahead and do this????!!!
I rang back and said, quote us, I know they need doing, but its in for a service thanks.

2nd phone call: Its ready to collect. That will be £40.
- Er... you said £160 before mate.
response: Yeah, but renault filters have to be ordered in direct, and we didn't have time, so we've blown out the old one's, which should be ok until next time. the forty is just for an oil change.
- what a joke!

So now I've got to use one of my saturdays and do it my sen! what a waste of time. All this for a bloody stamp. The oil is practically useless - seen as though i'll be doing the oil filter, I might as well drain it and put some proper stuff in. When she asked them use 'the best' they've just put - Synthetic. Sweet.

Atleast you have the stamp now though, i would of preferred what they had done tbh. Atleast now you can do it properly yourself, with less cost.

You need the belt doing though mate, if that fails on you it can also cause your cambelt to get cought in the action.

Synthetic? semi or fully? there is a big difference, also what grade was it?

I bet they put mineral 15W-40, it needs to be Fully Synthetic 5W-40, if your not doing oil changes between services.

They probably put cooking oil in there mate!! It wouldn't suprise me!

I'm still in two minds about the belt, don't you have to take the engine out, so be better doing both belts at the next service?!

Is there any how to guides on here too (servicing and the like)? saves me rooting around come saturday! - only ever done Vauxhalls.

We aint paid yet mate, I've still to go down and give them sh&t, our lass went to pick it up and they'd gone at 3.30 and left the keys with 'bob' who works in the tackle shop over the road!!!!!! - it just gets better....

Fred, I can't be doing with all that clicking and linking mularky, I'm a Donny man, just PM me a price for front and back disks and pads inc postage will ya? - oh and none of that track day lark, our lass uses the car to take the gran shopping, she doesn't need to be slamming on at the last minute. False teeth cost, ya know.
