Service

  172 MKII FF
Hi,

I have just bought a Clio 172 RS Mk2 02 Reg (46k miles) and wondered how often or at what intervals should services be made and what parts should be changed e.g. timing belt etc.

really bloody hell not looking forward to that!! that might be my p/x time to something else like a megane r26 f1 or 197

That ius the Renault rule I'd service it way more after all the servicing requitrments were just what warently allowed them to do idealy more servicing is essential.

What exactly do you mean by way more edde?

Service every 10k rather than 12k? Every 6k if your tracking/ragging the f**k out of it?

I'd chnage oil ever 6k or 6 months whichevers sooner and serice ever 12k or 1 year whatevers sooner. I'd also do more detailed servicing and checking of parts every 6k/6months idealy.

60k or 4 year for cambelt and 2 years/30k for the aux belt.

edde 6k is very little if you use a good fully synth oil the 12k should be ok but doing it more often can only do it more good i suppose

Cool. I'm doing 6k oil changes at least. And checking parts to the best of my ability!

well not being funny renault wouldnt say 12k is ok if it wasnt and we would all be moaning that there blowing up

Renault don't car so long as the car lasts the time its needed to for warently claims after that so what owners will sell up anyway on the whole.

Renault say what they want to say. There warently department say they cannot have longer than x amount of time as if there left longer than that the risk of failure gets higher however more regular servicing reduces risk but Renaul cannot be selling cars with 1k service intervals can they its a trade off.

Evnough 172 and 182 cambelts have snapped at 60k and 4 year to prove that 72k and 5 years is a bit long.

ok but any n/a engine running std power will be fine on 12k intervals trust me.

and as for cambelts yes i agree thats abit long tbh i will change before then maybe 50k as i drive quite hard lol

When you see the cost 72k and 5 years you'd think is to often.

I diasagree but thats each to there own I know loads of owners who chnage the oil ever 6k see the benefits.

i think my local garage would do it for less then £500 im unsure when i will change mine

im on a budget so i will be servicing mine every 10k which i think will be ample

D

deadonkey

I dont own a 172/182 but I believe a cambelt change on them is rather complicated.

It has been said on this forum in the past that you should take it to a mechanic that has done a cambelt change before and knows what he is doing.

That either means an independant garage that has done a clio 172/182 cambelt before or idealy a renault specialist such as Rentech / Yozzasport or RS Tuning although there will be other renault specialists about.

Jesus it costs like £30 or less to do an oil change yourself with decent parts.

Changed the oil 3 times in my Valver over the space of 12,000 miles(14 months) and would never leave it any more than 6k. Don't care what Renault say, I've noticed benifits of changing the oil frequently. Also air filter every 6k and spark plugs 12k.

well tbh using good fully synth ive never noticed by changing earlier then manufactures say so im going to go down 2k and do it at 10k!! use fully synth and then plugs at same time altho renault say 72k
