Setback osf wheel

  Liquid Yellow 1.5DCi
For a long time I've had this really annoying loud thudding noise from the driver front area when I go over bumps like pot holes/low manhole covers. I have replaced everything suspension wise and its still there. Before, when I had it geo'd my friend said that the wheel had a lot of setback, so either bent lower arm or subframe.

My question is, if the subframe is bent, thus making suspension components mis aligned, could that cause that sort of noise?? Or would maybe a nackerd, or soft top engine mount cause that noise, as its on the same side?

Thanks all!

Be proactive and take a look, shake engine and check each mount whilst doing so, and see if anything connected to the engine can move sufficiently to touch anything else, if your subframe is bent or you have a bent wishbone it will soon become apparent if anything is bent enough to make a part foul. One thread on here suggests firmly applying the handbrake and having someone bring the clutch to bite while you inspect the engine movement. Do you know in what way they were misaligned? As its set back check to see if a balljoint has been replaced on the arm, some cheapo ones are a sloppy fit which could result in castor change on that side..
