Shift Light/Optimum change light

Looking for a bit if technical advice here guys and girls. I have an 02 plate 172 and i am having a small issue with the Green Shift/Optimum Shift (whatever it may be) light. Mine appears to be permanently on. I have, being a 7 year old Renault had other electrical problems and have been advised that there may be a sensor somewhere near the gearbox thatis causing the issue. Can anyone either confirm this or point me in the direction of where to look.
