Please type 'shift light' into the search, it's not a shift light at all. Your thrashing your car as it's an over rev light.

Light comes on you change gear. They both work in the same principle

I would also like to point out that 'over rev light' is also wrong cat 171. If you get your Renault spec sheet or price guide out it is actually an 'Optimum Gear Change Indicator'. I think Shift Light is closer to the mark. ;-)
Any useful suggestions as to what could be causing the problem anyone?
Yeah i dont take my car to the 'light' however it has a good few hundred revs aftert he light before it hits the limiter, therefore this would indicate it to be a shift light. Otherwise if it was an over rev i would think it would be set at the limiter, the limiter is set at the limit for a reason - its the safe limit.
I may be wrong but thats my $2
Briefly - if you have the car re-mapped and the rev limit raised, does this raise the light with it, if not and thats the over rev then there would be no point raising the limiter??

I think you lose the cold 6500 limiter and the shift light doesnt change
I think peak power is made at about 6600? ussualy rev to 7000 myself
I have no idea what the light is connected to, other than it must have a connection to the ecu. Nothing stupid like flashing if gearbox oil is low or something like that?
Or maybe just a dodgy connection?
Just saw the response
are you caling yourself incompetent then in that above comment lol?
Lol @ Renault describing it as an optimum gear change indicator.
Lol @ Renault describing it as an optimum gear change indicator.
What do you mean please elaborate?
Well its obviously not going to be for fuel economy its for performance
if you shift when the light comes on then you wont hit the limiter think thats the point they are trying to get across...
It depends what you class as optimum its quite vague but in the this case i believe they are relating to performance.
Also in my 182 when the gear change light comes on im usually well into bouncing off the limiter so i dont know where you get that the light comes on before from.
